I heard that MinnKota has extended the Ultrex warranty to 3 years, even to those that bought one when they were first released. Retroactive. Anyone else heard of this?

What's the percentage of those who have owned this trolling motor for a long time and have not had problems?
I've been thinking about buying one, but it seems like they all have issues.

With as many that have been sold I dont think the failure rate is that high. Also, anybody I've heard of that had a problem minn kota took care of it.

My circuit board was bad straight out of the box. It was fixed by local shop iin four days. Anything mechanical will break at some point. I would buy another one tomorrow if I had to. It truly changes everything from retieing, landing fish, sitting on that point in a 20 mph wind and actually being able to focus on fishing.

Knock on wood before I say this. I bought one of the early ones and only had one issue but it did not effect to working of the tm. The cheap plastic part broke. It is on the wiring from the foot petal to the head. It is a v shaped cheap plastic where the wiring goes into the head of the tm. Since it was shipped to me by fed-x the seller or MinKota was not concerned about it. They just kind of blew me off so I electrical tapped it and moved on. I was not happy with the dealer I bought it from and will not buy from him again. On the other had before I quit communicating about the issue he was not happy with me either. Even with a 2 thousand dollar tm with a crack in a cheap plastic part it was the best thing I have ever added to my boat.

I bought one earlier this year and the board was bad right out of the box also. It would run constantly. All Star fixed in a day or two. Was at Fork couple weeks ago and it did the same thing. Got home and was going to pull it off and it was working fine. Gonna give it another try before taking it in. Would buy it again though, all I really use is the spot lock, but that is an awesome feature.

We need something to hold us in the hot spot when we sit down and drink a col' beer. I bought one in fall 2017 and used it until I sold my boat in the spring of this year. No issues whatsoever! I will not own a boat without one, period. I'm not a fan of power poles so the Ultrex takes care of sitting in one place with little effort.

I've been thinking about buying one, but it seems like they all have issues. Only problem I had was a busted cable, but it was my fault. It was gunked up with a ton of grass and I was mashing down on pedal and not paying attention. Cable popped.
