So, Im the proud owner of a 2012 Triton 21HP w 250 HP 25 pitch Fury prop, two rubber plugs are gone from the prop, on a TH Marine hydraulic jack plate. Here's the problem, I cant get over 60 mph before it starts wobbling all over the place. I've tried the motor all the way down, up, jack plate down, up, livewell's full, empty, jerking the steering wheel, all the tricks of the trade. The techs at the local dealer tell me its the hull type, what?! Anyone have a clue? Thanks.

It's a Triton and needs the most driver input to keep her straight.

I've owned two Triton's and I can tell you you need more time behind the wheel... Make short little adjustments to the right to keep it on pad... It will become 2nd nature after awhile... A 4 blade prop helps a bit too but you loose a little top end.

That article is written by a man that (by his own words) was thrown out of an Allison 4 times.

You need someone to show you how to drive that bad boy! People say you need lots of seat time ....get someone to show you and you'll have it down in a day. Bad thing is, once you figure it out, it's possible you'll want a faster boat.

Most people drive their boats as fast as they can just before it starts to chine and settle with that speed as their top end. What they don't realize is they have another 10, 15 maybe even 20 mph more to go.

Thats what I thought! I know this thing can hit 70 no problem. Thank you.

I would think a light load you should be between 73 and 75. You may want to go with a 26 pitch, once you get the driving down I would talk to Steve about the best prop. Steve's Custom Props. He talks about chine walking here
http://www.stevescustomprops.com/faq.html#What_is_Chine_Walking

Oh and the rubber plugs in the prop are not necessarily missing, they were removed for a reason ... google PVS vent plugs in prop

First off the plugs on the prop only help to ventilate it and allow the motor to rev higher to get on plain. Once up and running they do zero for speed or handling. As for the chine walking it takes seat time and eventually it will be second nature. Set up properly it will run mid 70's. I had one of the very first Tritons ever made, those first year models were a handful for an inexperienced driver and Triton soon made some changes to the pad to help but it still required lots of driver input.

To the OP, if your in Killeen go over to Texas boat world and get Cliff or Ronnie to go to the lake with you. Between the two of them they can help you a lot.

Not a beating at all. It's a fast hull. Learn to drive and they are great boats. I've had one since 2001. Never had a problem driving it.

Far from a beating, my new 22trx is the Cadillac. All it takes is some common sense and a little learning to drive the HP boats, some have neither.

Frank, do you even fish? No way you could as much time as you spend bashing Cowboys.

That surprises me. I thought Tritons were heavy hulls. My buddy owns a 20X2 2008 model and that sucker will fly and also cut through some of the nastiest wakes on the water. It seems very heavy. I would take the advice of some on here and get somebody that knows those boats to go out with ya. GL!

I have owned 8 Tritons and have a 2017 21TRX with a 300XS on it right now, it will run 80 plus, it drives like it is on tracks, the only one I had that gave me fits was the first one, a 1998 TR21, I did not know how to handle a high performance rig coming out of a Ranger, I think 90 % of the problem is the set up, if that engine is too low in the water it will be a bear to drive, my son has my 2012 HP, it is just like your boat, no problem driving that rig, we run a worked 26 Tempest in the cool months and drop to a 25 when hot, the engine prop shaft sets about 2 1/2 - 3 inches below pad depending on load. I had a 2008 20 XHP with a 250, it would run 81 gps, could drive it with one hand, I think it was the best boat Triton ever built. If that thing is squirrely at 60 I will bet a beer the engine is set way too low.
