I gotta go .8-.9 to get them to run out sideways - Easy running on trolling motor but not drifting.......
Might just be the crappy planer boards I got - WaterBugz And Plastic Cabelas ones. Gonna get some Extremes.........

.5 as long as Im running straight. Sometimes I will speed up to get them out a ways then slow back down.

WaterBugz suck for catfishing, Ive tried them. I got a pair of the Extreme planer boards and that made all the difference. Well worth the money. .5mph is plenty to get them out away from the boat with big baits.

I pull mine as slow as I can. .7 .8 really keeps a good pattern, but I prefer slower. I pull clear boards by double x

This time of year I like to go .3-.5 depending on how active the fish are. In low wind I generally pull against the wind so I can get a better spread and hit all the features I got pinned. I got some new Redi-rig clip on shark floats that Im gonna start playing around with for getting my vertical rigs away from the boat. I will let you guys know how they perform after I run em a few trips.

Ive trolled with them up to 2mph...and drifted as fast as 2.5mph with success. They can handle lots of rocking n rolling.
For blues anywhere from .3 - 1 mph

I use ZAKKS Planer Boards and they do ok at slower speeds but definitely the faster you are going the more they will spread out. I usually like to drift between .5 and .8 mph ideally. If I cant get the boat under 1 mph then I usually move somewhere not directly in the wind or go tie off somewhere.
My boat wont allow for a trolling motor (bow is too high) so on very slow days I have to turn on the big motor and use the unofficial "push then idle" method.

Good boards will pull at .2 to .3 mph. One key is using less weight, try to stick with an ounce. Bait size and wind speed and direction impacts them greatly., especially drifting with the wind. Water Bugz dont pull nor willl the Cabelas boards.

Very good point about the size weight used on the Planer Board... I use 1 oz weights on the boards and 2 or 3oz weights on the normal rods...

We use 3-4oz of weights on boards without any problem. Just depends on which size baits your using. If you are using 1lb baits, your gonna need 3-4oz of weights.
