Guess I just don't get why things get so technical. Recon I am just getting old. I just use a regular low dollar spinning reel, lay the rod on the dock or ground and tighten up on the line; open the bail and place a small rock or stick or something similar on the line. Fish bites, pulls line out from under the light weight (small rock or stick) and runs taking the line from the reel with the open bail. When using a rod holder I use a forked stick to hold the line tight and open the bail. All you have to do is pick up the rod, close the bail, and set the hook.
