Anyone been on Caddo / Lake o the pines recently? Moving to the area soon and would like to know which lake you'd prefer / how they're fishing this time of year. Looks damn cold next week when I'm there, hoping it doesn't shut em down

I have not fished either in a while but lived in the area for 4 years. They are both great at different times. The fall can be great on pines above the 155 bridge, in the spring I always did well in the back of Hurricane creek. On caddo in the fall do not let the trees distract you. When I fished caddo in the fall it was all about finding the grass. In the spring on Caddo the big fish are on the isolated trees. Just some basic info that is probably outdated but that was what worked for me.

Water has been fluctuating a lot so its been hit or miss on fall fishing. I know fishing on Pines is good above 155 IF you can get up there depending on water level

Pines is by far the better lake for me. I was born on the shore of Caddo and love going back for old times sake but frankly it's one of the worst lakes I fish.
We fished Fishers of Men there a couple of weeks ago in a two-day tournament. We came in with four under 14 inches and one over 18 on day one. I expected us to be halfway back in the field but that actually put us well within the top ten...less than 2.5 pounds out of the lead.
On day two we had three 12-13 inch fish in the livewell and decided we needed to change tactics to find big fish. We weighed in less than three pounds. As it turns out if we had had two more 13 inch fish... meaning five pounds for the day...we would have finished in the money. That's 14 pounds in a two day tournament.
We have decided if there is another tournament on Caddo we're not going back. There are too many other lakes that are better.

I like both lakes but pines is much easier to fish. Caddo has definitely declined over the years and became tougher with the giant salvinia issue. But being caddo is a shallow lake it can fish extremely tough but you can also catch a stringer of a lifetime within minutes specially this time of year. One weekend it may take 10 lbs to win the next may take 30 lbs. with that said if you want to go catching pines would be the place. If you like a nice scenic lake and dont mind tougher fishing Caddo is hard to beat.

Appreciate all the tips guys!! Caddo is just way too pretty of a lake for a northern guy like me to at least waste a day casting a line there, might focus on the bigger and deeper lakes in the area with warmer water. I'd imagine smaller or shallower lakes like Caddo the temps are going to plummet far

Caddo is tough for sure at times but can awesome as well. Im trying to appreciate caddo when I can go because Im afraid the sylvania will be back in full force for 2019. I didnt fish it for two years because of it. This year has been great but I saw quite a bit of it today

Be careful, theres been a lot of thieving going on around the pines.

Definitely will be diligent about the salvinia, looks like the damn devil plant. Is Martin creek a power plant lake? I'm worried caddo is going to drop to the low 50's by mid next week, might have to audible

Where are you moving to? Martin Creek is a power plant lake. Search this site I don't think it was too long ago someone posted a map "marking" the boat lanes.
Another power plant lake is Welsh. Gets real busy in the winter. Plenty of healthy grass to fish. A map of Welsh boat lanes was also posted here.

I fished Caddo today for 3 hours. Caught 13. Water was 57 degrees. Good day until the blowout on the trailer on the way home.
