Hello again
Asked you guys a couple years ago for a good guitar for the boy to see if he would be interested in playing
Per most the advise here I picked him up a nice used Yamaha Acoustic.
He still works on playing and is picking up a few song watching Utube, getting OK at it, still a beginner, no lessons
He likes old school rock and wants an electric guitar?
any help on a good one to look for
Thanks again for the help past and present

Fender makes some good cheaper kid size electrics. Got my kid one few months ago. He can barely hold an acoustic but the electric is more comfortable and he has more fun playing with noise settings on amp. Once he gets more comfortable and gets the basic chords down Ill get him some lessons and he can teach me too.

Twenty some years ago, a Fender Stratecaster Squire was a good, inexpensive electric guitar for a kid who had never played an instrument before. I dont know if they still make those, but there has to be something similar. I enjoyed mine.

The used Mexico made Fenders can be had for a good price.
Plenty of well made used guitars under $500.
This is a good site to look at used guitars and get an idea of what the average asking price is;

If you decide to buy new go to a local music store and let him play different brands.

They don't have pictures of it, but sounds alright. Price wise, it's probably a sweet deal.

Excellent advice...go to local music store and let him kick the tires.

Just a note...dont know how big/strong he is, but these are relatively heavy guitars.

The Epiphone Les Paul guitars are great. If you get one that was made with good wood itll sound just as good as a Gibson. The one I have is the best sounding one Ive ever played. A Fender Mustang is a great starter amp too, theres plenty of preset sounds to mess with.

Depends on what style he likes and the feel of the neck . I for one have always had a Gibson . Started out with a SG the had a 71 Les Paul Custom . After many years after selling them I played a Segal Acoustic .My grandson just started playing and we played together a few times teaching him a few things . I caved in and went to guitar 'tto get a cheap one for myself . For the money you can't beat a Epiphone . It is a great playing guitar , just get the right pick ups on it .

like everything, you get what you pay for... Squire guitars are mostly plywood bodies & the tuning pegs are awful (but with a little wood work can be upgraded for 50 bucks or so) electronics can be changed out easy enough

I'd look into a Fender Stratocaster. This was my first electric guitar and I loved it.

Guitar Center usually has the Fender Squire Strat pack (comes with a little amp included) on sale for a good price. That's what we my son several years ago. Check out their holiday ads.
