I've been looking at used boats for some time. Wanting to upgrade my current rig. What do you consider high hours for a Yamaha SHO? I know the F series Yamaha motors were just getting broke in at about 500 hours. Personally know guys that have put over 2000 hours on them. I have personally put over 900hrs on one. However, seems like the SHO is a different beast. Seems like everyone you look at has had a new power head put on it in the 250-500 hr range. I realize that maintenance means a ton so please don't respond with that line. I take care of my equipment and do my homework when buying a used rig, but if around 500hrs is the life expectancy for this motor under tournament style use....I need to look in another direction. I put 150-200hrs a year on a motor. I need it to last at least 1000hrs.

I have about 300 on my 2011 225 SHO and it has performed flawlessly. Yamaha sent a letter to replace the engine block at no charge. The letter specifically says that it is not a recall. I debated for a while, but finally decided to bring it in. The motor was past the extended warranty, so at least you know they stand behind their product. I hope I made the right decision...

Longevity of the SHO is no different from Yamahas other motors. Its all about how its cared for.

150hrs a year is really racking 'em up. I have averaged 60 a year and that was a lot of fishing, IMO. I've been looking, too, but just cannot find the boat for me. It'll happen, eventually. In the meantime, would someone take me fishin?

If maintained and operated correctly they will last a long time.

I have 357 on my 2016 with zero issues. I change my oil early and run good gas. I was always told to let the SHO warm up before taking off and run it hard before putting it on the trailer.

After what I was just told by a friend with a blown SHO I am not sure the 4 strokes are something I want now. $14,000 to rebuild and just a few weeks out of warranty.

I got the letter from Yam stating same. Mine was one of the early 250 SHO 2011 models they had some issues with. With about 400 hrs on mine, I took it in and they replaced the powerhead at Fun n Sun. It has never had a problem before or after. I will tell you this. One of my friends that is an offshore captain runs a 32 Contender CC with twin 250 fourstrokes 3.3 liters that have over 3,400 hours on each. He told me he changes the water pump impellers and lower unit grease every year.
