I think it's funny how all the "5 fish" guys are declaring BPT dead before it even gets going. With some of the brightest minds (and deepest pockets) in the Outdoor world and major media backing it, I think BPT will be a great success.

B. Duckett 57 - 96
G. Klein 86 - 62
T. Horton 102 - 76
S. Grigsby 98 - 104
K. Jordan 96 - 93
P. Elias 105- 92
T. Biffle 104- 80

MLF founders Duckett and Klein I get, but why did they leave some very good tournament anglers off their lineup?

I think its funny how all these "Dink Fest" guys believe the BPT will be a success before it even gets going. Some of the brightest minds deepest pockets have tried upstarts in sports and television and failed. How many bad television programs have been created by major media networks and producers?

Think it's time to squash these topics until we see how everything works out.

The "Redcrest" has no info on whether it will be televised and when that will be. I am guessing it will be similar to the "tour" events in that only the last day will be live streamed on-line. The "World Championship" is the culmination of all the chaos and will be aired in six one hour episodes on CBS and six two hour episodes on Discovery. I do not buy for one second that these anglers jumped ship to "grow the sport" or for "sponsor exposure". With just the "tour" events you are talking about 40 full days of competition that won't even be televised or live streamed (Day 1-5 x 8 events). Then what if the television package the consumer has does not include the Discovery channel or the Outdoor Channel? How is the product consumed then? Charge the consumer to pay for on-line access of televised episodes? What if they do not want to pay? Now you are left with 6 episodes of network aired shows that 95% of people with a television can consume. Out of 14 events. So where is all of this added "sponsor exposure" and opportunity to "grow the sport"?

This is why HBO is shutting down there boxing department. Not everyone has HBO and not everyone was willing to pay the ppv fees. It never grew the sport of boxing. Your hardcore fans stayed but thats about it.

MLF or BASS, it doesn't matter. This list of guys are past their times. All are great anglers and have done some great things in the past. But you don't see any of these guys on the final day anymore. Maybe every now and then.

They didn’t. They left for more money. It’s just a business.

I definitely get that. I can't blame them for wanting to go somewhere they can make more money. I guess my thinking is what is going to happen when their sponsors realize they aren't getting the exposure they expected to get and then potentially decide to pull their sponsorship from the anglers? At that point, what are the financial consequences the anglers face? I'm just spit balling. It's all what if this or that. That being said if I was spending money to sponsor an angler because I thought it would expose my business to more people but that did not happen I would be hard pressed not to spend those dollars elsewhere.

I enjoy watching MLF on TV. I enjoy listening to them, in person, if I happen to be at an event (ie. BPS or Cabella's). However, I'll be damned if I am going to pay for what they have to say. There's just not enough "there" there. If they're beginning to want a piece of the television money, then good for them. Good for them, as well, if they can get it. How much do you think is there? Millions? I don't think so. Thousands.. maybe. But, because of the very limited market, they risk ruining what they have, or least, putting a big dent in it.

This may not make sense.. but when watching BASS/FLW LIVE.. it feels like a 'sport'.. the anticipation in real time, for me, is important.. i get there are some live elements to MLF but the fact that the championships are aired a year later, takes a lot of it out for me... I really enjoy watching the MLF shows and record them all, but it still feels like a 'TV Show' not a 'sport'.

I think the same thing but maybe these guys will make enough not to have to hustle for sponsors all the time is all I can figure. Maybe they think the sponsors will support the whole thing enough that just that money and maybe some other stuff will support the whole thing. But theres also people all over with sponsors that we never see so it doesnt really mean they will lose any

I could GASL, who's fishing what and when, fishing to me, is all about "my time on the water.."
To try and get ALL hypothetical about these future events, their success, or failure, is hilarious..
The amount of money the average joe invest to be competitive is staggering these days.. I liked the sport better before we got 100k boats, it's still fun, but, I'm not paying to watch a minute of bass fishing either.
