Anyone used Axis deer body or belly hair for spinning up bass or saltwater patterns? I have a chance at an Axis skin. I might just look at the hide and hair and see if it looks and feels right for spinning.

I have no experience with Axis, but I have used both mule and white tail. I believe that the time the animal is harvested has more of an effect than the species. The closer it gets to winter and the colder temperatures are, the thicker and more "hollow" the hair is and the more under fur there is to comb out. Hollow hair is good because it will float higher but at some point, the hair starts to become so hollow that thread tension will cut rather than spin or pack.

If it flairs much at all, it ought to at least work for a Borski slider. I did see one seller of materials offer Axis body hair, but they didn't say what it was used for.
The natural color of Axis with the red/burnt orange tones ought to work on the redfish.

No one was interested in shooting a deer. Someone did get a young turkey and I got a bag of feathers including some nice marabou to work with.
