I know you guys who use braid on your spinning rigs get wind knots--they are annoying and interrupt your fishing.

What is your solution to this problem,or what is your recommendation for this annoying problem!

Do not use brais for casting only use it for vertical fishing.I would agree with SnakeEyes use flourocarbon or a copolymer line and see if it helps. The problem I find with braid is the ultra thin diameter of it.It pulls itself down into the wrap underneath it and balls up and it also stinks for casting due to weight and design.

With braided lines, sometimes you get a loop in the line as it exits the last rod eye and that loop ends up being a knot, and braid doesn't slip out like monofilament does.

I have used braid, but I invariably end up back with monofilament. I have considered fluorocarbon lines, and might give them a try if I ever find water clear enough to matter.

Def. Wind Knot- The line twist that often occurs when using a spinning reel is exponentaily factor per M .P.H. Sometimes pissing off the unweary angler.

Thanks Kat, I use braid sometimes, but have never had the problem so far.

I fish powerpro braid on spinning gear with very little problems with wind knots. I fish the coast using 15 lb braid up to 30+ lb. braid at Amistad when swimming jigs. I would recommend using braid with spinning gear with the following suggestions.

The key I believe is that you need to feather the cast at the end of the cast to prevent slack in the line. The slack is the issue when it comes to wind knots not line twist. My experience is that braid does not suffer the line twist mono does when fising jerk baits.

Wind knots are pesky with baitcasters for the same reason. I believe that most feather baitcasters as a rule anyway and as a result eliminate the issue.

Try feathering with your finger to the point that you acutally stop the bait inches above the water. This will not only eliminate your problem it will allow baits such as top waters to be positioned when they settle in. Good luck.

I use braid on one of my freshwater reels but I also use it on my big surf rod and the one thing I can tell you to help prevent that initial loop from even happening is to close the bail by hand thus not giving your line that half turn when your reel turns to close. it it's as simple as that. laugh

Dobro is right too don't let any slack in your line but line twist is part of the problem

I use Power Pro 20/6 for weightless plastics and can throw them from here to next week. I do assume by wind knot you mean line wrapping around the rod tip from time to time. I do not close the bail by hand although that is a good thing to do depending on the type of spinning reel your using. As Catfish713 said, it's all about line twist. The Shimano reels have a rotating bail roller and you spool them differently than a conventional reel. Check out the Spriex models.

Lastly, do a "Maintenance Cast" now and then. Throw it out far and retrieve with a smooth line lay back on your reel. You can also check out the Power Pro website which has scads of useful info: www.powerpro.com

Good Luck!
