The good drifting on Lake Livingston usually starts in September, this year it was a little later as the water temps were still way to high and too little O2 for any deep water action until recently.
Fishing is steadily picking up and following the usual pattern of one or two big fish over 36" and plenty of fish weighing within four ounces of 17.5 pounds. And days of excellent box fish from 4 to 8 pounds, but only one CPR fish. Now that the water has cooled that will change and the big boys will be plentiful.
The water temps tumbled this last few days from the high 80s to 69 degrees yesterday.
So far this year the longest blue caught was 40", but a bit skinny. Several 36" to 37" fish have been caught weighing around 21 to 26 pounds.
We have caught a lot of those 17.5 pound blues, sometimes three or four a trip.
Livingston has a generous 50 per person daily bag limit on blue and channel catfish combined.
And maybe the biggest shad population of any lake within the state boundaries.
If you come out east to visit and want to drift for catfish give me a call/text/email.
