My dad just had a new boat dock built, the construction of crappie condos has already started of course. I want to get him a nice (not the most expensive) rod for jigging around the pilings. What is the suggested length of a standing on the dock jigging rod and what brand?

ProAngler Tackle 8'. It'll get those slabs over and onto the dock easily.

I prefer any ACC CRAPPIE STIX rod.

www.acccrappiestix.com

Plenty of good rod makers to pick from and as with anything in fishing it's a personal preference and what you are comfortable with.

I hope to post some pics tomorrow night or Tuesday.

Wait to see the Bass my Dad caught today while fishing Crappie. 5'6" ACC Crappie Stix rod with an 8 pound leader and a 1/8 ounce Crappie jig in feather. Bass estimated at 7-8 pounds. We took pics and put it back in the water. Hope the size of my picture quality allows me to post it on the forum. If the file is too big I can text you the picture Redfoxone. If it can catch a Bass like that you know a Crappie is a non event.

I landed a 35 pound Yellow Cat fishing for Crappie with an 8 Footer on my first trip with my ACC and was sold that day on the rod, but as stated previously plenty of good rod makers to choose from and opinions and experiences vary when it comes to anything fishing.

Congratulations on the new dock and condos.

Tight Lines!

Good Luck finding something that works for your needs.

Yes, it is covered with 12ft headers, very large and open.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Educate me, why so long if you're just standing on the dock?

Long rods are typically used on a boat to get the bait further away and eliminate spooking fish, and to reach more cover from the same position. On most docks, its not necessary, but personal preference. For dock fishing, I like a shorter rod, something in the 6' to 7' range.

I like the Pro Angler in 5.5 or 6.5 ft for fishing on docks and for shooting under docks.
