Anybody use a Chatterbait in Deep water? (20+ Feet)

I only have used 3/8oz & 1/2oz sizes and typically target: 1-6 Feet Average ...12 feet max

Was thinking of using a Chatter bait where I might do some Deep Cranking...Just give the fish a different look

Thank Ya'll

I know fishermen will throw a heavy spinnerbait in deep water, sure a chatterbait would work well, I have seen 3/4 ounce baits, would imagine you could get a one ounce.

I build the Baby Doll Chucky for deep water in 3/4 or 1 oz.. It is on a Magnum Blade with no Snap or Split Rings. With the big 7.0 hook and spur keeper you can run most any soft plastic swim bait on it also.

The 1 oz size is popular, particularly during the post-spawn months. A few months back, we were sold out of a bunch of colors in the 1 oz, but most are back in stock now.
I think you get more action with the standard size blade.

I’ve done slow rolling across the bottom. It was great post spawn.

1.5 oz works great on offshore lakes. Slap a xcite shad nasty on there & hang on.

I've caught 3 DD's on chatterbaits fished deep (12-20 ft). Best was 12-4. Donald Harper's is the best. I always use a chartreuse super fluke for a trailer.

No. They do not work. Do not attempt this method. Complete waste of time.

Is Donald's line tie on the wrong side of the blade?

No. Hook is up. Line tie on the bottom.

I'm glad someone started this topic.

I am a HUGE fan of jig fishing, and Chatterbaits.

I would much rather throw chatterbaits then crank baits.

So my question is : Can a chatterbait be used effectively as a search bait ??

Big Kahuna: Can a chatterbait be used effectively as a search bait ???

I think so Absolutly...Personally I think Cranks and Chatterbaits are both "Search Baits" by design

Although I would probably lean more on a Chatterbait to locate the fish than a crankbait (I'm probably different than most here)

More so with a Shallow diving crank because I tend to fish them to get the ones I don't get with a chatterbait...

I can bounce/deflect a crank off timber and rocks better and get the "Reaction Strike"

In my opinion-Deep Cranking Crankbaits are another category altogether-If I'm deep cranking-I'm searching

But like you I would prefer to chunk a heavy Chatterbait where I might throw a Deepdiver
