It seems the bulk of you guys are in North Texas but I hope to get a little intel on these two lakes.
It looks like TP&W no longer are stocking Hybids in both lakes. I know they have experimented with some saltwater fish in them.
But my real concern is about the White Bass. I have not seen a lot about them in either lake.
The main reason I'm asking is because my daughters family lives in eye sight of the stacks of Calaveras. I would like take my granddaughter and grandson fishing there next summer.
Is the WB fishery pretty stable? From what I'm reading on this site...Hybrids and Stripers hurt the WB. The last stocking of Hybrids was in 2015 in both lakes.
Don't need any secret spots, but I would like to know if it worth dragging the boat that far to chase a decent fishery of WB.
Thanks

Man those 2 lakes have big reds in them. When I go down there (Braunig) that's what I target.

I certainly have noticed that. I'm sure they would be a blast to catch...grandson is only 7 and is a little guy. He loves to fish, the have a pond with bass in the front yard and his granny has a pond of catfish in her back yards. So he gets plenty of time on a rod n reel.
I might have to break out the tethers I used for customers when fishing for Amberjack offshore.

There are no whitebass in those lakes, hybrids can def be caught. But mainly Reds and catfish. The red fish are a blast in those lakes! If you wanted white bass, Canyon lake would be the best bet. Probably have to troll for them in the summer time and work around a bunch of boats.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think there were any, but thought I would ask.
Be easier to get my daughter to drive to Somerville so I don't have to drag the boat so far.

Theres been big blues caught at Calaveras. Personally Ive caught several over 25lbs. Drift fishing and jugs are my preferred methods. The hybrids get big, just hard to find consistently.

If you're going for the sake of the grandkids, Brauning should be the ticket. A couple of inexpensive Zebco rod & reel combo's, crappie rigs, and shrimp would be all you need for a lot of blue gill or sunfish, maybe even a rat red or two. Quantity over quality is what the little ones are looking for....lol IM me and I'll give you a couple of places to start.
Tight lines...... Amps
