Sears back in the early days even sold houses.. That always amazed me. I owned one for a while when I was flipping some houses. It was actually very well made. There are several here in Nac.

My uncle just bought 2 of those houses on a single lot in Austin, about 1/2 mile south of downtown. Paid something g like $650k for them. That has to be a record for sears kit houses.

The first career type job in had after college was a Sears catalog store in Oregon. Can you see me as the boss? I couldn't. I confess I never did learn everything I needed too. I was proud of myself though. I had a blue executive Sears credit card. Only managers and up had them. Buy anything I wanted without getting any credit approval. The most I ever used it for was clothes. Wasn't a bad job but it was not Texas. After about a year I headed back.

Craftsman homes in the M streets of Dallas are selling for astronomical sums.

Sears is a great example of a company that failed to change with the times. Just like some of y’all that still write a check for your electric bill. This

I was one of the first employees of the Sears at Northeast Mall. Opened that store in probably 1976 best I remember. Sold some paint to Harold Taft back in the day.

They used to carry a white, thin weight, cotton stocking that was a great fit for my amputated right arm, only place I could ever find them, normally would have to have them made (Very expensive), now I just dont wear the appliance, except when fishing, tying knots is damnd near impossible with three fingers (But, granted, Funny to watch)

Sears is the company that pull America through the depression, letting people pay off items after they had the money

Their fatal mistake was years ago when they discontinued their catalog. We would wear that thing out, especially with the monthly fliers through the mail. I do not remember what happened to it, but I purchased a Ted Williams bait caster & matching rod (fiberglass). It was just a rebadgged Diawa Millionare & was great.

Sam Walton and big box discount stores had a big impact on the traditional stores. Montgomery Wards went bankrupt. Penny's and Sears severely curtailed the catalog sales. People didn't want to wait days for an item when they could go to Wal-Mart and get right now cheaper.

The main reason we quit going to Sears is because most were located at a Mall. We quit going to malls first I think. I had a Ted Williams baseball bat once. I just looked up Ted Williams and read about his frozen head and how workers at the company where it is stored were playing games with it. Sears took a big hit when Americans caved to cheap Chinese made carp at Walmart. Now everything is bought online and delivered to your door. Then when the leftist KMART bought them, that was the nail in the coffin. Well, bye.

Stuff changes and there is not much you can do about it.
When I was a kid we went to the five and dime store. It was kind of like big box store except I think more stuff was made in the USA then.
Something people tend to overlook when griping about cheap imports---a lot of it is not made here anymore. Shoes and anything electronic is made in China or India. Best selling cars are made in Japan. Even automobiles are assembled here from sub assemblies that we shipped out of the country to make. I read somewhere that the Ford LTD qualified as a foreign car.

As many of us greys, I ordered everything from clothes to car parts out of catalog. I even ordered a set of Hedman headers for a 57 Chevy.
As the old school management died off, new college kids took over. Soon, looking good to stockholders became more important than maintaining positve cash flow and reinvesting into a core of profitable customer base.
Many senior execs became tyrantical leaders only intrested in an empire. Productive teams and units were required to support less productive teams and units. Performance expectations were lowered. Everyone received a partcipation trophy.
Capitalism and profit became evil terms.
The country was flooded with cheaper imported throw away good.
Sears changed with the times. Not all change is good.
