I'm trying to locate the best location to mount the transducer which is 8" x 3" x 1". I'm considering using a L bracket attached to the sacrificial anode and setting it back in the 10" cavity which provides motor clearance and boat clearance if I drop it to just above drain plug.

I realize on plane readings will not be possible in this location, but planning to use unit's sonar at idle speeds only.

What do you guys think?

Doesn't look like you have a jack plate which is the perfect place for that transducer. The problem with that long of a transducer is the bracket that comes with it. I have the same unit. The bracket is not strong enough to support the weight and length of the transducer and everytime I got on pad the water pressure would bend the bracket up. Hope this is making sense. I ended up getting a bracket from Transducer Shield and Saver in Alabama and mounting it to my jack plate. Problem solved. They may make a bracket for transom mount but not sure. Hope this helps.

Pretty sure if you call them, tell them what your mounting, and what your mounting too, they will have a solution.

You could cut your bunk board back a bit and mount it in the read area or just go with the green area.

I mounted mine with a stern saver just in case I needed to make adjustments. This is my first glass boat and I did not want to drill holes. Works great so far and it has been on since February. I get good readings at 30-35 mph but anything above that it loses signal.

That's a good mount there but the Humminbird transducer and bracket is different from yours. I tried everything to keep mine straight but the bracket was just not strong enough. Mounting it to the jack plate with the bracket from TS&S did the trick.

Lots of great suggestions.

Gigem, transducer shield and saver makes a nice product and I would certainly consider using them if I had a jackplate.

HarleyRockstar that is great looking mount but it doesn't look like the photos I have seen of the Helix Mega Transducer. Just confirming that it is?

Shut-Up-and-Fish, I first considered the green area but was concerned that the motor would need to be trimmed way out to provide clearance on the left. Red area is an interesting thought.

Probably w/o of photo of the bracket I'm suggesting it is probably difficult to visualize/comment on what I'm planning. I'll do more measuring this weekend and include more info.

This will probably require more trial and error. I'd like to avoid the mistake I made in my 20s of drilling too many holes in my transom. Still have and use that boat almost 30 years later.

I certainly appreciate all the great suggestions from everyone!

You can also mount the main bracket for the transducer to the top of the bottom step.

Hawghoover, are you mounting the transom mount transducer inside or the through hull transducer? Any difference in image quality?

You can't install a MEGA SI transducer as a shoot-thru and get any SI function or quality Down Imaging. High frequencies don't do well for shoot-thru.

Humminbird's MEGA SI transom bracket is a lot more sturdy than the one pictured.

Your hull needs a shoot-thru 2D transducer and then the MEGA SI transducer on the transom where the green box is pictured or on a jackplate.
The shoot-thru is the XP 9 20 and you connect that and the MEGA SI transducer to the display with the 9 M SIDBY cable. The shoot-thru will provide depth/2D sonar all the time and the MEGA SI transducer will provide SI/DI/Temp all the time.

That is an INSTALLATION not just mounting.

I bought a SIDBY splitter cable for my new Helix 10 and could not get the DI to work, just 2D on the puck and SI on the Mega. Looking at the switches now.

Did you get the correct Y cable that is the current one——9 M SIDB Y.

The older discontinued version AS SIDBY will not work with a MEGA unit. It does not have the DI circuit.

After checking, the answer is "yes I did buy the AS SIDB Y"! Dang it! That would explain the lack of DI! Just ordered the 9 M SIDB Y cable. Appreciate the feedback. I really did not want to buy a switch.

This is a Garmin transducer. Just wanted to post a photo for placement of mine and give a recommendation for the stern saver!
