I find most the creeks and rivers (trinity) in the DFW triangle can have some beauty to them. To see the really nice scenic rivers you'll need to leave the pedals out and drive a little.

What do you consider the DFW area? My top rivers for fishing and scenic views are-

Brazos-2hours from DFW
Upper and Lower Mountain Fork-3.5hours
Upper Quachita River-4.5 hours
To Name a few 4+ hours south you have Guadalope, Colorado, Frio, Blanoc, and Pedernales.
There is also the Devils but it's not an easy put in and take out like the others.
Also check out the TPWD Paddling Trails.

Thanks Todd , I'll check it out . I once read an article in the observer about a guy that paddled the trinity from Ft Worth to Dallas , that would be so cool but I would hesitate to do it on my own.

There was a guy and his wife that went from Ft. Worth to the coast. They did it over a year doing sections of 100 miles or more. I would love to hear their story but not sure how to find them. I used to be able to go to Google Earth and see the pictures of the trip all the way down the Trinity but the pictures got removed when Google earth changed format.

Fort Worth Nature Center, just northwest of Fort Worth. Beautiful wooded river setting between Eagle Mountain lake and Lake Worth. Can be decent bass, sand bass fishing, crappie at times, long nose gar. Might spot a gator or two.

Trinity has something to offer

you could do that Ft. Worth - Dallas trip solo

Just to your east, I'd add the Neches River above and feeding into Lake Palestine. There just on the eastern side of Chandler, you have a place to drop in, a "trail" for kayaks and canoes.

And, fish, lots of fish.

Too, a bit farther to the east, the Sabine River above Toledo Bend Reservoir is a good area. Look up River Ridge Camp for a location I believe you can pay a nominal fee and drop in there.

Aquiles, I have paddled from Hwy 78 to the power line ROW, which is about 2 miles each way. I have also gone up the river in my boat to about 3/4 mile north of the ROW. I love fishing the river within 1 mile of Hwy 78 in my kayak, but it's not an easy access now. It seems like every time I decide to try it, the access road is muddier than I'm willing to risk.
