over the Thanksgiving holiday since the wife and I get 4 days off we try and go somewhere different. this year we are wanting to head south from us for some fishing. I was thinking Fork but then heard some talks about Caddo also. don't know anything about either as I have never fished TX before.
could anyone give some advise of any kind on fishing either of these in late Nov?

Luke I would go to Fork the lake is in the best shape it has been in years(maybe decades). I would get in touch with Eric Wright and book a trip so you will be dialed in on day 1. He knows the lake like the back of his hand!

Fish Fork, make a day trip to Caddo and take a tugboat tour or something. Also, I believe Caddo is a huge duck hunting lake so you may be dodging gun shots the whole time.

I would do Fork way before Caddo, and I grew up near Caddo.

Falcon in late November... instead of chasing those East Texas fish back into the creeks for the fall migration go fish for some prespawn giants in South Texas. Depending on the weather they may be real close to the spawn by that time.

Stay near Fork. Fish some on Fork and definitely make a trip over to Welsh (little over an hour) especially if you can go during the week. It's a power plant lake so the water will be in the 60-80's depending on the weather and where you are on the lake. You can really have a lot of fun on that little lake. If it's right, you don't need to do anything but find a pocket and fish grass all day long and could catch 50+ fish. Won't catch any giants there but the numbers should be great and you should mix in a 4-6# fish if you get lucky.

I'll be going to Fork in November. The great thing about Fork is that it is fairly close to a bunch of other good lakes that us foreigners never hear about till you make a few trips down there. Purtis Creek, Athens, Hollbrook, Quitman, Winnesboro, Hawkins and others. As was mentioned, Welsh and Palestine an hour or so.

Agree on Welsh, Bob Sandlin can turn on in the fall also.

If you mean fishing trips hiring a guide, Fork and most of the other larger lakes have super talented choices to choose between. These lakes are huge and they can put you on fish.

If you mean bringing down your own boat or otherwise fishing on your own? I'd think you'd have more fun and better results on some of the smaller lakes, Lake Athens and other come to mind. With just a bit of research, reading TFF, you could figure them out easier.

East Texas, for sure, in terms of access to the most lakes. South Texas would be great but that is way, way down there; and, again, might be best fished with an experienced guide.

I have a place right off Sandlin. November can be very good. Water will be a little cooler and fish should be feeding up for the winter.

Welsh will be turning on about this time. Have caught some good fish on this lake over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Several other lakes in the area (Gilmer, Winnsboro, Hawkins, and Holbrook) gives you plenty of options.

If you fish Sandlin or Welsh (or any of the other lakes I listed) drop me a PM and I'll see if I can help you out. Can't help out on Fork much. Too crowded for me so I pretty much stay away. Too many other options.
