The first time I took my boat down to the coast I had a lot of questions. One issue I faced was corrosion. Here is a short video I shot that may help someone else avoid some of the issues I had.

yep, I grew up on the coast in the boat business..
I got a boat from my dad who was living in New Braunfels..
First time I took it down to the coast my mom about had a heart attack about it never having been in saltwater..

It was put together like a saltwater boat, all stainless steel screws, etc.
I told her dad taught me how to take care of one afterwards..

Had my first true saltwater issue a few weeks ago when the steering was siezed,,that was fun dealing with!
Going back down this weekend and spent some time yesterday prepping..

There are saltwater boats.
There is everything else.
It's not the obvious stuff you can see, it's the things you don't see that cause the most pain.
Try to dunk your bass rig in the brine, and all those electrical connections in the bow, convenient lights, switches, and especially in the bilge are done in. Unless you liquid tape every single connection, seal every butt connector, they're going to die a painful death.

Carpet? It's going to die.
Non galvanized/aluminum trailer? It has no hope, you just murdered it.
I know it's tempting, and "one trip" couldn't hurt anything, right?

Pat, what does the salt do to aluminum trailers? I figured aluminum would be fine

If aluminum is fine, why did you say the aluminum trailer was murdered?

Our boat has been to the coast 3 years now. It has minimal electronics and everything on it is stainless or aluminum. Aluminum I-beam trailer. I corrosion x'ed everything, the electrical was done right and it gets flushed and the entire boat and trailer sprayed with fresh water when its pulled out of the salt every time, even between morning and evening fishes... my dad raised a kid terrified of salt water. It also gets soap car wash on the way home every time. So far so good, not one problem yet... knock on wood.

He said "Non galvanized/aluminum trailer? It has no hope, you just murdered it."

Which I read as; non galvanized or "non" aluminum trailer? you just murdered it. I believe he was saying if it is not aluminum, or galvanized, then it will rot, which is correct.

Even after hitting a car wash I put it in the nearest freshwater lake before I get home. Paranoia strikes deep!

I go to a freshwater lake and dump countless 5 gallon buckets of water on my entire boat in the process. Flushes out the bilge area including the pump and then drain what's left when I get back to the boat ramp.

One more reason a bay boat trumps a bass boat
