Hey guy and gals I think I am finally going to make the splash and buy and NRX. I never thought I would spend this much money on a rod and it still seems silly to me but I have heard there amazing and I have to find out. Anyways I am saving my money up and talked the wife into getting me one for Christmas and I need help deciding which one. My favorite way to fish is pitching a 3/8 or 1/2 jigs, but I also like throwing trig worms and Carolina rigs. I didn't know if I should by a all around rod or get one specific for pitching? I am usually pitching from the bank and fish a lot of ponds and tanks but on occasion I will fish a tournament with buddies. Thoughts???

Those are some nice rods.
I would think about getting another brand rod at a cheaper price. There are a lot of fantastic rods out there for 1/2 the money that with your eyes closed you wont know which one you have in your hand.

I respectfully disagree. I fish with Dobyns Champion XP, great rods and about half the price of an NRX but Ive thrown an NRX a couple of times and noticed the difference immediately and it wasnt negligable. As the saying goes - you get what you pay for. I will be purchasing some NRX rods in the future because of that brief encounter I had with one. Lol.

As for rod choice, without specifics, I would get an all-around rod in that scenario. You can t-rig, c-rig, spinner bait, do some light to medium cover flipping and yada, yada, yada.

If you can't find em wind em.

Thats a load of money to spend on 1 rod. He is wanting to do several different applications. And some rods will do that. But for the money he is going to spend he could select several other rods for each application and have two or three instead of 1

The biggest problem with NRX is, you can't stop at one. It's like rod cocaine, by all means, get one! I have several and will buy more. It does take getting used to, bumping into a log under water feels like hitting a brick with the lawnmower. For your application the "most" versatile would be the 873crr IMO, 893jwr is my go to and it goes in my hand first. Half oz jig with plastic, would be a hair too much load for the 893jwr. The 894jwr is a beast, so I'd go with the 873crr or 894jwr, you're welcome thumb

If you are locked into that price range, I would suggest you look at the newest line of Dobyns Rods. It's the Xtasy series and you can put your hands on some at Lake Fork Resort right now. Just ask to talk to Ernie. This line has been in the works for more than 5 years. The blank is a brand new Toray Nano Material, the handle is AAAA Cork, the guides are Fuji Torzite. The line was designed with very fast crisp action and are great looking.

I'm glad you asked the question as I'm trying to "rent" a NRX from a local tackle shop and was wondering "what model" I should try! Got this description off a website for the 873CRR and sounds legit for the flipping/pitching I would use it for!

G. Loomis Carolina Rig Casting Rod NRX 873C CRR Blue

SPECIFICATIONS: Length: 7'3" | Line: 12 - 17 lb. | Lure: 1/4 - 3/4 oz. | Power: Med-Heavy | Action: Fast | Handle: B | MPN: 11933-01

Designed to fish soft plastics on a leader behind a heavy sinker for a couple of good reasons. The heavy sinker helps you maintain positive contact with the bottom and it also creates a lot of commotion. Once you've got the bass' attention, the next thing to come along is the meal - set the hook. It can be tough to feel the bite because of all that weight ahead of the lure, but because of our NRX Technology, you'll feel everything that happens down there. The extra length moves a lot of line for positive hook-sets. You'll find it difficult to imagine a rod so light can be so powerful - and yet so insanely sensitive you'll wonder how we did it. Our secret - your advantage.

873 is one of the most versatile NRX models made. Ive got 3 and use them for several different applications. Regardless of what anyone says on here, you wont regret purchasing an NRX. Best rod on the market.

Im kinda intrigued by this new Dobyns rod mentioned above though...

Odd that this new series would be available at a vendor and there is not even so much as a mention of the new line on Dobyns website. confused

I'd consider the 873 CRR. I have several and use them for different applications.

I agree with those suggesting the 873 CRR for versatility. Right now my favorites to fish with are the 893 jwr and 852s, those are a little light for your needs. If you ever get a chance to fish with those don't do it because you'll be wanting a second and third NRX.

The NRX is the cat's meow. My favorite model is the 7'1" mh. Dobyns rods are nice and I have a dozen of them but they ain't no Loomis.
