All of a sudden today my side imaging and down imaging picture is very dim. It seems like shallower than 20 or so ft I can see it ok but deeper than that I can barely make out the bottom. Even in the shallow water I was having trouble finding brush because I dont think it was picking it up like usual. Any ideas or suggestions? The unit is a Lowrance hook 7

try reseting your sonar back to default.

I did for both but it is still very dim deeper than 20 ft. The down imaging is the same if not worse. Still can barely see the bottom and not much in between.

Did you try to increase your contrast.

I did not and can try that this week. It works better in shallower water and worked perfectly fine the trip before and I didn't change anything. Could it be the transducer going bad?

Did not help. Ducer is going out after having it for 6 months. Depth reading was jumping around and slow today too

Anthony, do you have Voltage displayed on one of the screens. If not, edit and place it on a screen to determine voltage to the unit is. Just taking a stab at your problem. Have you checked the pins where the unit cable connects to the back of the unit? Make sure all pins look good and are of the same length.

This can be maddening - good luck.

I would go into your menu under system and reset your sonar to default and see if that fixes it.

It puts the sonar software back to factory default. Its one of the steps you should do before you try a soft or hard reset on your unit, if you sonar is acting up.

Jimmy, I have noticed that the battery that the TM and fish finders are on has been dying at the end of the last 2 trips and was reading that the lower voltage could mess with the image but it still doesn't look any better at the start of the day. I will double check all of the pins today and see.

Jason,
The first day it started acting up I restored the default setting and didn't notice any difference.

I called Lowrance and was told to do a soft reset and see if that helps. I did that but have not been to the lake since to test it (hopefully this week).
