Ok I really need some help here. I am trying to convince my "city slicker" wife to invest in a weekend getaway place on the lake. She has the idea that the lake is in the middle of nowhere and nothing is around it. Yes I know that it is and that it the purpose of a get away but still. She has agreed to spend a few nights in the area and look at what is around and some lake houses. What I am needing is some suggestions about where to stay and what to show her to help get the deal done.

It depends on what she likes. As for a place to stay I would rent a house off of vrbo as opposed to staying in any of the motels. If she likes antiques show her the proximity to canton. Show her mineola and Emory for basic needs. Try and get her on the water and show her some of the waterfront homes from the lake.

That how I got my wife to let me buy over there.

Go look in the Pension Bay subdivision and then shoot over to Land's End area. Then take her to eat dinner at Seth's in Quitman. You have just closed the deal if you do this.

I would suggest driving in from Sulphur Springs on 154 just to show her how close it is to the Interstate...

One of the nicest places is Lake Fork Bass & Breakfast. Probably more costly but worth it. Located and the intersection of 515 & 17 just west of west 515 bridge of the lake. In the middle of pretty much all the popular places on Fork. Also, 2nd for taking her to Seth's for dinner.

Links of Lands End I think has some rental units as well that would be wife friendly. Little more difficult to get to if new to the lake.

Bought an RV 3years ago and put down there. Wife had no interest then but she is now starting to build our new house in Royal Oak Estates and we are moving there permanently. Started fishing with me the spring, first time she ever fished, and she regularly kicks my butt now. Thinking about taking up golf.

Be careful what you ask for she might love it!!

Might have a hard time finding a place this weekend, Big Bass Splash is in town. Wait until next weekend after things settle down a bit and take some of the good advice above.

Thanks for all the advise. I have fished the lake for a few years now and know better then going this coming weekend. Mad house time. She likes being on the water but doesn't like the idea of being so far away from everything. I want to show her that there are things close enough but not on top of you.

Thanks again

another option for you might be to buy a new or used RV or trailer....park it at one of the several RV parks at the lake and leave it year round....spend enough time there to determine if living at the lake is something both of you like......if it doesn't work out,you don't have near as much invested as you would with a lake house plus you don't have the hassle of moving everything you own....

I would stay at Lake Fork Marina, Oak Ridge, or the Minnow Bucket marinas.
these all have good stocked fishing supplies, places to eat, and launches to good fishing.
Enjoy, maybe a half day with a guide would also be fun, I would take her with a crappie guide,
let her see the lake, and catch some fish. fish

Dont stay at Oakridge. I'm sorry for who it may offend, but there were more bugs in the room than in the parking lot.

Check out Bridgeview if you want a nice place to invest in for weekends at the lake. It is a nice place for a "city girl".
