My 2004 F150 came with Hankook 235 70R 17. There are only two brands of this size and few dealers carry them. I on my 2nd set of the Hankooks with 83K on the truck and I have had 3 blowouts so I am not satisfied with the brand. Can somebody tell me what other sizes I can run without going to a differnt size rim. I am trying to find a more common size so I have a better chocie of brands and prices.

Thanks

FM

According to Discount Tires website this is what you need.
265/60-18, you did not include some info on the truck so you will have to check the application.

When in doubt SET THE HOOK!

Plug in your truck info and you'll get the sizes that fit. Also surveys of customer satisfaction regarding tire brands and models.

265/70/r17 this is a very common tire size it is 31.6 inches tall and 10.4 inches wide. Your current tires are 29.9 inches tall 9.25 inches wide. On discount tires website there are 39 matches in this size 265/70/17. Good Luck in your tire shopping and contact me if you need any more help.

i work at a discount tire, what i'd do is just go in an ask one of the sales men "what will work". i know here in wichita we do tons of f150s. And Ut freak is right on common size.

I would suggest a 265/70/17 also, but it is going to change your speedometer. You will need to recalibrate it with a re-programmer like a SuperChips or Hypertech, or the dealership should be able to do it.

I reccomend the Nito Terra Grapplers, they are a all terrain tire, and a really good tire both reliable and STYLIN! I promise you'll like them!

not all f-150 rims are the same. they have 17's and 18s.hancook is not the greatest tire in the world. 235/70/17 seems to be a thin tire for a truck stock size is P275/60R17 and they came with BF goodrich's. My titan comes with 265/70/18. your size should have a wide variety of tires that shouldn't blow out.

So very true. Great tires. Had them on a Chevy and they will be the next tires for my current Ford

My 2004 F-150 FX4 came with 18" tires and wheels. I changed to Discount Tires Aluminum Wheels 17" and Goodyear wrangler Silent Armor tires. I am wanting to go to a more aggressive tire that will work on a 17" wheel or sell my current set-up and go with the 18" wheel and tire in aggressive design. Any thoughts? I think I got better gas mileage with the 18" set-up too.

This may be completely off the wall, but I remember seeing some strange wear patterns in the earlier (90's) F 150's. Everyone I talked to always contributed it to not rotating the tires, as the wear only happened on the front. Your tire size seems fine to me, try switching brands and rotating them regularly.

FMNitro one thing you need to remember, the taller & wider the tire the more fuel you will burn....

What ever size you chooose I would go with the Michellin brand. I have always heard good things about them. My 2004 Ranger came with them and I have 82000 miles on them with out a problem, they are easily gonna go to 100,000 miles before I need new ones.

Here's what I did. I have a 2000 F-150 4x4. Had the 17" rims on it. Ran into the same problem, 2 types of tires and both super expensive (over $1000). I got a custom 16" rim and LT285/75/R16 tires. Ended up costing $800 for the whole set and tires are a lot cheaper when you get in the 16" range. You also have a lot more options. Since my truck has a lift on it, I can actually put a lot bigger tire on with 16" rims than I could with 17's.

Nate you can put as big of tire on a 17in wheel as you can a 16 the only difference being size of your wheel and price. Example a 285/75R16 is almost the same as a 305/65R17 The difference bing the height of the sidwall and the 305 is about 3/4of an inch wider. Another thing to look at is the wheel offset.
