I've had just 2 or 3 all summer here but had a ruby throat show up last week and he is terrorizing the others

Activity is picking up here in the Bluegrass.
Blooms are far and few between.
Had many more this time last year.

Weve had 3 resident birds all summer. Over the weekend, that number has at least tripled. We have 2 feeders out, and all the drink stations are taken, with others waiting around. Watching the aerial combat has been very entertaining. Ive learned that hummingbirds are buttholes.

Have 20 or so between two feeders the last couple days.. Even had some swarm me before I got the feeder back on the hanger! Theyre fun to watch for sure..

The migration is full on at my place. I now estimate that I have at least 80 birds all trying to hit my 8 feeders. The feeders have a combined 48 feeding stations and during the morning and evening feeding rush all are being used with dozens of others hovering around waiting their turn. This is a record year for me. The pics are not that great due to limited light, but you get the idea.   You could have well over 160 (if you are along the coast) birds coming into your feeders. The first time we banded hummers at the house in Corpus Christi, I figure we had 20 birds coming to the feeders. 120 birds were banded in about 3 hours. Only stopped because we ran out of bands. One time I colored marked 60+ birds and that evening only two or three colored marked birds were seen at the feeders. At the hawk watch at a park about half a mile up the river from the house, birders would always come up saying they had just seen a hummingbird that they couldn't find in the bird book. Half the people that I told about my banding and marking the birds, gave me a look that I had fell off my rocker and had a few screws loose. Every year during the peak, we would use one and a half gallons of sugar water a day. Are you a licensed/ certified bander? Arent there only 100 in the United stares? And 3 or 4 in Texas?

Yes, I was until 2006. Back then there about 500 Hummingbird banders in the U.S.A.

Has everyone else seen less activity?
I was having up to 15 birds at a time for several days and then in about two days I'm down to just maybe 3 or 4 different birds-
Not sure if I have upset them somehow or are they just migrating?
I've never had that many at once so I'm not sure how long they stay in my area.
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
