This lake has been a tough one for us. seems to be a battle to find many keepers. typically we don't keep then unless they are 14"+. Any suggestions? Does this lake just get this much pressure?
Thanks for any advice!

I dont think granbury gets a lot of catfish pressure. What bait and areas have you been trying?

What are you using for bait? Things like livers, and punch bait more often than not will result is smaller fish.

Yea there's just so much shad in the lake, it makes the best bait. As a teen we used to be able to get into Pecan Plantation and catfish from the dock at the marina at night. Never caught anything over 5lbs but there were always a good amount of 13-18 inch channels around the marina after dark, at least during the summer...

small live shad are my go to at Granbury and Proctor. Cut large shad is #2, and shrimp is #3.
for Granbury find any deeper flat in the upper part during evenings while it's hot, or any drop offs where the channel runs or by deeper docks and drift your bait around until you find them.
Chumming shallower cove or bend areas for late evening early night fishing usually works well.

we use punch bait behind chum. Typically fairs well everywhere we go. sounds like a lake that we should do well in. just may not have found the right holes. It has proven to have a fair amount of fish in it. we'll keep after them and see what happens. Thanks guys!

Granbury imop has a decent population of eating sized Channels but the Blue and Flathead population is much lower. The fish kills took it's toll on Catfish years ago. I remember seeing a ton of stripers, catfish, etc, dead all over the shores. If the Golden Algae stays under control, the future looks good for the lake.

I lived on Gbury for 2yrs and your absolutely right...that's one tough lake to fish for catfish. I lived over by the hwy 51 bridge and ran some lines. We did pretty good we averaged about 250# the first year and about 200# the 2nd year, biggest was 30-35 yellow and 20-25 blue...found more eaters up closer to the mouth of the river, lots of log jams, shallow flats and cover up in there...also a great place to get away from the traffic. If your interested soot me a text on IG or something and ill send you a marker map of where i was fishing...used live perch and big gizzard shad mostly.
