Tboxfish is right on as always! Bite has been very tough for me also. The good news is that can only get better!

The bite has been tough since the end of July. Places where I was used to catching 10 to 15 solid fish have gone to 1 to 2 fish, then move on. Some days, smaller profile baits, and/or changing colors, shapes pick up a few more. I've been trying different scents and bait additives to help trigger more bites, but in water this hot, they don't last long. With the shorter days and cooler temp coming this week, the pattern should begin to change for the better.

Need to try this lake-just hear too much good about the crappie on it. I've fished a lot of lakes throughout this country, Mexico and Canada and I've never seen a better lake for size consistency. 11"-14" fish are the standard. I throw almost all of my fish back except during the required period during the winter months and I catch very few under 10". When I retired, I could have moved anywhere I wanted, I chose Lake Fork.

I literally have put out 140 brushpiles this year, (should be 150 before this weekend haha) I can scrape together a limit on a half day trip but it is seriously 0-3 fish per stop. Oddly enough the handful of spots I can always catch a few on are either shallow or deep compared to everyone else (14 foot, black crappie) and 27-29 foot. The big crappie are showing up more and more, had several in the 16" range the past week...
Very strange this summer, I felt like a crappie master in April, May and June...had days where we would catch a 3 man limit before lunch and never get past my 3rd spot....
Some of my best brushpiles from May and June have become infested with large green trash fish....lol.

Are you trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records? That is a crazy amount of brush piles. What are most of them made of? Mostly Oak, but I have sunk everything from Bradford pear to Osage Orange. Sure makes guiding easy when you make your own spots! 5 piles a day is about the max I can do, but it is very much worth the effort. On windy days I work on splitting this endless pile of Oak.

I absolutely slayed them last Thurs. 22 on one BP/structure. I was on the water at 9:30a and limited right before noon. 19-20 ft and fish were on the bottom, about 12 inches up. I only placed my rod in only two positions, one left of the TM and the other to the right, both about 1ft from the TM. All but two on minnows, just couldn't get them interested in jigs or jig/minnow tipped. Best 7 were over 11 lbs. It's been a long wait for this type of action this summer for me. Good luck.
