Fished from daylight to 11:30 this morning. All the brush piles I usually fish were vacant of fish. Tried 10 different piles and no fish. The 3 I caught were just roaming in the creek with no structure around. Fished depths from 10ft- 26ft. It's like there are not any fish in the lake. I'm scratching my head. Any ideas? Water temp 83

first dont pay any attention to the water temp, second, go fish structure from 9 to 4 feet. as it gets cooler, keep looking shallower. ive caught crappie in a foot or less of water in the fall.
When Jacob couldnt find spawning fish in the spring he was shocked to find them spawning in 16 to 20 feet on Nac. now hes a believer.
we get way to locked in on temps and depths.. its our nature to think that way, but crappie are strange creatures, and very adaptable.
Shad can spawn more than once a year, they spawn very shallow, so thats where the crappie will go to feed. go cruise some shorelines right before daybreak and stop and listen, the spawning shad sound like shrimp flicking around in a icechest or hamper. lots of gurgling on the surface near the shore.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

This is very typical for cloudy conditions and cooler water...they are doing just what you said "roaming around" probably getting ready to spawn. when you see the elm trees dropping leaves and the squirrels stealing green pecans you know its time for the fall spawn ...also jacob got some tadpoles from Tbox at the murvall get together so he's probably caught most of the crappie out of Nac.

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

Can I respectfully ask you where you are finding cool water with 90 to 100+ degree heat indexes in Texas the last several weeks? or were you funning?

Yep you are right. I think Jacob did catch them all. I'll guess I'll have to wait for the next spawn to catch any! laugh

Jacob got a promotion to HS band director, it's football season, still baby sitting, too busy to fish. I bought his ironing board so that is not the reason. You are just out of practice.

Don't worry about taking his ironing board, he shops all the garage sales and he has a metal shed out back where he stores extras! Just in case they collapse from the weight of those crappie he catches!

I think we should volunteer to exercise is boat and equipment. It is the neighborly thing to do and that spotlock would be nice. Heck, the crappie wouldn't even know it was us instead of Jacob.

I was on Nacogdoches yesterday and Naconiche Saturday, both lakes water temps or in the mid 80’s right now. I think it is due to all the rain and cooler water coming in from the runoff. Both lakes are stained and the bite has been tuff. I have brought home crappie everyday, but only a few. Most have come out of 12’ of water, suspended over deeper water. But the water temps are definitely in the 80’s right now.

Hey leaning post, all the water I have been fishing lately has been 83 degrees.

Ranger, I agree with leaning post...last two weeks, most of the active fish, I have caught have been in 3 to 8 foot of water...fewer have come from the 10 to 12 foot water...seems like the deeper fish just aren’t active, or have moved shallower. Hope this helps.

Make sure the negative lead is hooked up on your jumper cables. A bad ground can cause these issues. grin
