What is your budget?

Get the most expensive Lowrance of Humminbird unit that you can afford. Personally, I prefer Lowrance. You don�t necessarily want to buy a �newbie� unit because once you become comfortable with interpreting your finder you�ll likely want a more advanced unit so you might as well get the best unit you�re comfortable spending money on and getting acustomed to its image. IMO.

Don't listen to them, get a Humminbird Helix Mega and be done with it. Never have to upgrade. Pay David at Shut Up and Fish $75.00 to set it up for you and go catch some fish.

I have Lowrance and Humminbird. Both, great units and both easy to learn

Last November, the best deals were on the Gen 1 Humminbird Helix models

Don�t know how you like to fish, but for a first fish finder, I�d get something with 2D,
Down imaging/down scan, charts, gps, and the ability to log/record sonar.

Take advantage of Tackle Warehouse's Black Friday 20% discount and get a bigger bang for your buck.

I'd suggest the Helix stuff. While I don't like em, they are really easy to use.

Lawrence, buy the nicest one you can get and learn to use it.
