looking to get a kayak for my son and I. Devils River is on the list as well as Lady Bird Lake in Austin.
what other areas should I add to the list? Fork in spawning season in a kayak might be interesting.....?
Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life

South Llano River. 377 crossing to S Llano River State Park outside Junction Tx (close & beautiful stream). Colorado River below Austin. Webberville area. Guadalupe River above Canyon Lake. Pecos River from Pandale to Amistad. Devils River from Bakers Crossing to Blue Sage Subdivision(above Amistad). Brazos below PK dam to Highway 4(pretty low right now). These are all very good fishing rivers. I've paddled the Devils several times. Absolute bucket list! Great fishing. Big largemouth bass & great smallmouth bass fishing. Same for the Pecos. Few hours from DFW is also the Mountain Fork River above and below Broken Bow Lake in Oklahoma. Illinois River @ Shiloam Springs on the Oklahoma, Arkansas & Missouri borders. Ouachita River above Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. Buffalo River in Arkansas(lots of rentals/transportation options here). Many great choices. Many more not mentioned. All the northern rivers I've mentioned are great classic Ozark type smallmouth rivers. Hard to beat the Devils though for beauty, remoteness & great fishing. Logistically a tough float to put together. Contact Gerald Bailey for transportation/livery services on the Devils. Search Google for information on all these floats.

Highly recommend you get mid sized kayaks (13/14 footers) that will work in rivers and big water and everything in between. Caddo Atlantic Ocean

If you can do the Devils you wont forget it. Great trip with awesome fishing. Make sure to drink from the springs by the SNA. Best water I have ever drank.

Thanks fellas! I have a good start to my list now. Many of these, I'd never even have thought about. I coach with a guy who does the Devils River trip and that's definitely numeral uno on the list.
I'm originally from north east Iowa....and I'd like to also try the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota. I know that's typically a canoe type deal, but if I found a spot with minimal portages, should be doable.
Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life

Devils river is a bit extreme if you are a beginner at kayaking. Not as simple as most rivers. Check out the kayak fishing section of TFF and you will get some excellent feedback from kayakers that have made this trip.
