Can someone school on catching hybrids in Lake Waco. I'm a lifelong stock pond bass fisherman and can kill em any day if the week...however I cannot catch these hybrids and whites to save my life. I recently bought my dream fishing boat and have been putting it to use. I can mark fish off the old dam, old hwy 6 road had and at lacy point but cannot get fish the to bite. I have thrown slabs, jigs, spoons, top water and live shad.... but just cannot get it done. It's bad enough I may name this boat strikeout!. Please help a brotha out. I just about at the point to hire a guide to teach me. This site is great but there isn't a lot of info on waco I'm finding with the search button for hybrids. Thanks!!

I didn't know Lake Waco had hybrids. I've never heard of anyone catching them there and I haven't seen any guides advertise. Using a fishing guide is usually money well-spent to learn a new lake.

Thank you learn to fish. We went out this morning and found whites and even landed the elusive hybrid on live shad. Was a small one but a hybrid non the less. If im not mistaken T P & W started stocking hybrids back around 06...part of a water quality enititive. Lake record is around 13 lbs.

Apparently I'm just not living right. Was able to back out there this evening and caught 2 small whites... :-/ I need to poke around some new areas.

I found them in 15 FOW on Lacy Point yesterday morning bouncing chartreuse slabs across the bottom.

We went out Saturday morning and didn't do too bad. Struck out at our first spot at the old dam so went to the Hwy 6 roadbed and started getting quality whites, a nice 19" hybrid and a couple of keeper crappie. The key for us was to work the north side of the road bed in 17-18 feet and not move too much. I think the little wind and small rainstorms helped activate the fish a bit since we did see some schooling along the roadbed.
I have discovered that this time of year, the whites and hybrids are moving along the roadbed and don't stay in one spot long. So.. we just sit and wait for the next school to come by. Chartreuse/gold slabs (RS Lures) and silver/blue seemed to be the right color for Saturday but my normal go-to's are white/pink and silver/chartreuse slowly bounced or dead-sticked.

My time was limited this weekend but we got out for a few hours Sunday evening. We shot across to the bubbles and netted some shad and moved out to the old dam. I marked fish on both the west side and east side of the old spillway. Please take a look at the graph pics and help me understand what I was seeing. I'm still learning how to use and read my sonar. We threw slabs, jigs, meps, and some top water as well as dropping live shad down to the fish and nothing. Are there fish in that ball or was that just bait fish. In the map pic, when you say the Lacy point side of the old road bed, is the area I have circles in the right vicinity? Thanks Yall

We were fishing on Lacy Point itself. Wacofishinfan was fishing on the HWY 6 roadbed. The graph pictures you posted dont look like whites or hybrids to me. What unit do you have? If it has Chirp sonar turn off the chirp and set it to 200 hz and what you see will be fish and not clutter. I cant get my phone to upload pictures so Ill have to send you some graph and map screen shots tonight. Send me a PM if you want to give me a call.

At one time I had the lake record, just under 7 lbs. Caught it off lacy point fishing for blues. Cut shad for bait.
