I haven't fished Joe Pool except 1 time about 20 years ago. I was invited by a co-worker to come fish with him. We plan to target catfish using some jugs and rod and reel. Any advice on where we should try? I know absolutely nothing about the lake.

It's not known for its catfish population. There are a few blues in it, but I think probably more channels. If it were me, I'd choose another lake. If another lake isn't an option, I'd probably change up my strategy and go for baiting out a spot under a bring or in some of the timber along a channel and then use a dip/punch bait for the channels.

I would strongly suggest going to a different lake. Grapevine is much much better for cats.

If you're dead set on Joe Pool, don't bother trying to target anything big; just go for channel cats.

Im well aware that Joe Pool isnt optimal for catfish. I live on Lake Lewisville and usually fish it. But the person inviting me lives on Joe Pool and that is the only option for this trip.

Yeah, not planning on any trophy fish. Just want to enjoy the trip and experience another lake.

Caught a mixed bag of blues and channels 2 weekends ago in 14-16 ft of water out from Cedar Hill State park drifting cut shad. Biggest about 4 pounds. Fished a couple of shallow areas with no luck. Hope this helps.
