What's the lightest line you've ever caught a catfish on? I often catch channels when bream fishing. The lightest for me was 4 lbs floro. I catch plenty of channels on 8 lbs mono when drifting for bluegill.

4 lbs mono. I used my "perch" pole (named by my fishing buddy's wife) to catch all kinds of fish. Yes, I lost a few fish over the years but caught a mess of eaters.

I know it, man. Man, you can really feed yourself on light line and long poles.

2lb p-line flouro is the lightest line I caught a cat on, at a community pond. I think it was 6 or 7 pounds. My lure was a 1/64oz jig head with a 1" berkley gulp minnow for bait. It pulled lots of drag.

Stren 4 lb. test line on a ardeen crappie hook #2. It was a 18 lb. blue cat. The reel was a Zebco Crappie Reel and a 5 ft ultra light ugly stick. The cork never went under, I just thought I had a health minnow. Went to reel it in and the fight was on. Now that was fun!

Lightest I use on my cat poles is 20lb mono. Got perch poles for bait fishing but dont target cats with it. The ones Im looking for wouldnt even notice 4lb in their lip and theyd snap it in milliseconds.

Well, Blues, that wasn't the question. The question was what is the lightest line you have caught a catfish of any kind on, not what is the lightest line you would ever consider using for a dedicated cat rig.
Every one of us has been crappie fishing, bluegill fishing or bass fishing on much lighter than normal cat fish tackle and caught catfish. The question is what was the lightest line you happened to ever catch a catfish on?

4 lb line with a road runner on my 12ft crappie rod. Line actually broke as brought cat to surface and pulling towards net. I somehow grabbed line and pole and swung fish into net. About 2 lb catfish.

Let me rephrase since yall missed it. 20 POUND LINE IS THE LIGHTEST IVE CAUGHT CATFISH ON. I dont chase the little dink channels, theyre a waste of time. I own one pole with 8lb line for perch. Guess Ive probably caught little 12 turd channels on it at sometime but dont really consider those catfish more like what I said turds. Better? If yall missed it again its 20lbs.....

You just answered the question, you caught a 12 inch channel catfish on 8 lbs line while fishing for perch. That was exactly the question I was asking. Thank you.
The other comments about 20 lbs line for your preferred sized catfish are noted. I use those sizes as well, but that wasn't the question. A catfish is a catfish and you can't change the genetics of the species just because it isn't your preference. Catfish defined as all species of the order Siluriformes. By definition that includes the 12 inch channel you caught. Despite your preference for other species and sizes.
I, like you, consider channel cats to be a panfish. The only time I catch them is when targeting bream, but again that wasn't the question, and I don't get to change the order and species just because it's my preference.
I handlined a 22 inch blue on 8 lbs line, but note that I didn't mention that as my answer to the question. I listed 4 lbs line here I caught a channel because the fact is that was the lightest line where I caught a catfish.
The question wasn't about making yourself look good in front of everyone. It was a question of fact not preference. Thank you, sir, but this conversation has grown old.

When I lived in Texas, the crappie would spawn in the back of a particular cove. The channels were thick back there as well, I'm guessing they were feasting on crappie eggs. Caught many on my 4lb mono baited with live minnows. I quickly learned to set my drag as low as possible. If one broke off, chances are I would hook it again within 15 minutes.

Guys on the forum these days wouldnt have lasted very long 6-8yrs ago. This place is all PC and soft now. I miss the old forum full smart arses and trophy fisherman that could jaw back and forth, ruffle feathers then make up. Posts full of BIG real catfish. At one point I asked a mod for a sub forum for trophy cats to separate us from the dough bait channel cat guys. A sub forum wouldnt make sense now, most of the dedicated heavy hitters dont post much anymore......its sad. Not trying to make myself look good Willie......honestly avoid fish under 10lbs as much as possible. Not thumping my chest, its the truth.

I see. Thanks for clarifying, Blues. My bad. You're saying 20 lbs line is the lightest you've ever used for trophy cats.
Yeah, trophy fishing and artisanal fishing being totally different in gear, purposes and everything. For me I in it for the food, and don't want to eat trophy fish. I'd rather leave them in peace to breed for eaters.
