Anybody ever own one? Any general thoughts? Quality? Customer service? Warranty etc

Just look for general pro’s and con’s

I have owned two G3's over the years and currently fish from a Sportsman 17. G3's have a stable platform with plenty of storage. I primarily fish smaller East Texas lakes, so a huge "pro" would be I don't have to worry about hull damage fishing thick timber.

I also fish larger lakes like Fork and Palestine and the ride across big water is acceptable. I have a Yamaha 90 four-stroke, so can't get in a big hurry at 35 to 40 mph but I'm an older guy, so that's okay by me. The Yamaha is quiet, dependable and requires limited maintenance. I take it in every January for it's annual service / oil change and I'm good for another year.

The biggest "con" for aluminum boats would be they are light, so they do get blown around when fishing in wind exceeding 10 mph. I have Talons and a Terrova, so it's not really an issue for me.

As far as warranty, I've owned mine for two years and haven't had any problems. Customer service all depends on the dealer where you purchase the boat. I have bought several boats from Plano Marine - Longview and Jeff Gage has always taken good care of me.

I fished from a big Skeeter for several years, so a comparison would be "apples to oranges". The G3 is a solid affordable boat, but really all comes down to personal choice and a person's "style" of fishing. But I do not regret trading in the Skeeter on my current G3.

If you live in the area, I would gladly take you out in my G3.

Our club Treasurer has an old, old, old G3 with the 90 Yamaha. Its been used and abused, sits out under a lean to on a ranch in all kinds of weather. Sits for months at time but starts right up when he needs it to. We'll probably have to bury him it. Don't know of any cons.

I owned one for 10 yrs. Great boat. Never had any issues other than being light on the water and getting blowed around. Does not like rough water, but it was only 17-6. Great first boat for someone just starting out or a secondary boat to get up in shallow water. Only drafts bout 10in.

Thanks for the response. Exactly what I was looking for.

Always hear the complaints about wind.....I ‘m guessing with the right boat positioning and an Ultrex the aluminum boat world will be changed forever!

I have a 19' aluminum and it handles Falcon and Amistad just fine. Just like any other boat on large lakes, need to know your limits.

When I first moved to TX I wanted to find a boat and one of the first few I looked at was an 18ft G3 fiberglass (Skeeter hull). The boat was 8 years old but the price was right and the boat looked well kept. Well caught a bunch of fish in the boat and never regretted the choice. Don't know if this helps but found G3s to be well built and dependable.
