I need some advice. Can I get a decent side scan/gps unit for under $1000? if so which one should i get. That's my budget right now as i have a lot of things on my plate right now. The old Lowrance i am using right now keeps loosing the gps signal and obviously its critical in finding my brush piles. I've checked and treated all the connections and it still doesn't stay on all the time.

If you go to Bass Boat Central you will find a lot of people upgrading their electronics and you can find a good deal.

As Steel_Man pointed out, there are a lot of used units available that would certainty meet your needs. You didn't say what Lowrance unit you currently have, if it's currently meeting your needs other than the GPS issues, and if it has a NMEA-2000 connection, then another option is to purchase an external GPS antenna such as the Point-1 for your current unit.
