I was fishing at the back of the boat and my buddy yelled “hey catch”! So I turned around quickly to catch whatever he was throwing to me with my cat like reflexes only to look down in my hand and realize I had caught a big snoozer of Skoal straight cut.

We were fishing a Tournament on Lake Eufaula in Alabama out of Long Point State Park. This is on the upper end of the Lake next to the Wildlife Wilderness area which is full of alligators. My co-angler was from St. Louis and when I told him where we were going to be fishing he paled out and mumbled something about alligators. It was about 30 minutes into the tournament and I caught (unintentionally) a small (finger snapper) Gator on a top water bait. It was about 20" long. While I was fighting it he was screaming cut my line. When I finally landed it I went to sit down to get my pliers to remove the treble hooks, when I started toward him in the back, he screamed and ran to the front of the boat. Shortly, he settled down went back to fishing while I removed the hooks form the gator.

When I got the last hook out of the gator a small devil whispered in my ear I decided to put the gator in his side of the live well without him seeing me. About 5 minutes later he caught a keeper and went to put it in the live well (which did not have any water in it). When he opened the lid and saw the gator you could have heard the screams from at least a mile away. A nine year old girl stepping on a snake could not have been louder and higher pitched. There were sounds coming out of his mouth I did not know an adult male could make.

I went back and removed the gator and safely returned it to the water. Not easy to do with a 6'3" 250lb man making incoherent noises.

He didn't talk to me for over an hour and then he didn't use anything but cuss words for the next hour. Finally he started to laugh about it. We both finished in the money but he wouldn't open the live well without peeking in first. Naturally I told everyone about it at the weigh in.

When my buddy and I are not in a tournament, but play fishing, we keep count. On this particular day I was whooping him by like 35 to 15 or something ridiculous. Anyway he was at the back of the boat pouting and ready to go home. Not me, I was still catching.
Anyway, he was at the back of the boat taking a leak when I hooked another 2 lb fish. So from the front of the 21' boat I swung the fish around on the hook set with just the perfect amount of line that it hit him in the ____ while he was still peeing. It startled him so bad that he almost peed on himself nearly fell in the water. I almost fell in from laughing.
He gave me.a good cussing and said "that's not funny.......". But is was later that evening at the cabin having a few and still to this day.
