What is the longest fishing rod you use if your 5'7" or shorter. Everyone is going with longer rods. Are you comfortable throwing anything over 7 '.

7'11". Height does not matter for most techniques. It only effects the pitching technique.

My personal opinion for myself (5'7"") Not really. It's flipping & close quarters dock fishing/timber flipping that is more difficult with longer rod & short height. For me anyway. The good benefit for me is it seems I get better hooksets with 7' rod. Casting CB's & Carolina rigs is better with the 7' & longer rods for me. Better sweeping hooksets for me.

Shorted guys need longer rods to get the same effect as a taller guy with a shorter rod! I have no idea on what length rod a shorter guy would prefer as I am 6' 7" so when I was 5' 7" or shorter almost all rods were 5' - 5-1/2' or so.

Size doesn't matter, so I've heard... j/k Close quarters is probably where you might see it make a difference. Like skipping, flipping, etc.

I am 5'8" and I fish nearly all 8' rods. Of course, I have taught myself how to do it and that is almost all I use. I have a few 7'3" rods, but that is about as short as I fish. Just takes a little getting used too and practice. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I'm 5'9".... Just your average joe. I don't like using anything over 7'3". For skipping docks or overhangs I prefer a 6'6" to 6'10". I have one 7'6" rod and its a pain in my a$$. Take a look at the lengths and actions that Falcon Rods offer. They have plenty of rods that fit us regular guys.

I am 6'1" and about 90% of the time I fish with a 6' rod. I own all of the other lengths but rarely pick them up. The 6' is just what I am most comfortable with and that overcomes any shortcomings from other rods. Use what feels right to you.

I am 58 and I use 711 for deep cranks and big swimbaits, 76 for deep slow presentations. Everything else 72 and below.

56 - 57 (depending on who Im telling).
My only issue is a 73 topwater rod, because I drag the tip when working the bait. Everything else I sidearm effectively enough to even skip if needed. My flipping technique stinks anyway!

I think height comes a bit in to play with top waters and jerk baits as well as pitching but I don't think it's a big deal. I'm 5'10" and use 7' rods for topwater and jerk baits and anything from 6'10" rods for skipping docks to 7'5" for pitching, as well as some rods in between (7'1" to 7'3" seems to be ideal for me for pitching). I use 8 foot rods for deep cranks and swim baits.

Im 59 and I fish rods up to 711. No problem at all throwing long rods. Only time I opt for shorter rods are my topwater and jerbait setups. I prefer 66 - 68 for those applications. Just keeps me from slapping the water. I still throw longer rods with frogs for leverage.

So....does a 6'6" make my boat look bigger?
Different lengths are not for different height anglers. It for different actions and presentations. If you are not comfortable with different length rods, appropriate for each technique, you need more practice.

My wife is 5ft 7in.tall and she has no problems using a 7ft 6in.rod for her Carolina rig. For pitching she uses a 6ft 9in. rod.
