I’m planning to upgrade from the original 12V Motorguide on my 2007 Tracker PT175 to a 24V, 80# Ultrex. Is anyone else running this setup on the PT175? Also, what gauge wires are you running to the Ultrex? I have 8 awg and was hoping to stick with that and upgrade the breaker to a 60A...

On that 24V if you get over 13'-15' of wire length, you will want to go to a #6. The 60A Breaker is what you need.

. Be careful using wire that is not rated for the volt/amps you are gonna be pushing thru it. I had a fire break out on a boat many years ago because of an issue like this. Fire in a boat next to 20 gals of gas ain’t no fun.

Jumper cable wire is usually 6 or 8 gauge

Run 6ga wire. It may be a PITA to do it, but do it once and do it the right way.

Depending on the length of your run, you will be right on the ragged edge with #8 wire. I would go with #6 just to be safe. If you're worried about routing the new wire, just use the old to pull it. If you're worried about the cost, look at it this way: which is more expensive, a few feet of wire, or a new boat?

Not worried about cost...more worried about how to route the wires without collateral damage of disconnecting something else in the process of pulling it thru the length of the boat. Also, I called and asked the techs at Bass Pro and Cabela’s and they’ve said they’ve installed the Ultrex on boats with 8 AWG wire with no issues so far...I don’t necessarily take their word as gospel, though...
