Guys, wanted to give a thanks to Don Harper for his help on Lake Whitney. I had him map the lake and help me with some hot spots and technique advice a couple months ago. I finally got a chance to go on Tuesday to play with the Lowrance units and see some of his hot spots and caught a good one!!

I had both of my girls and the dog with me and only a couple of rods. We were doing more swimming and messing around than anything, so of course NO SCALE!! We did measure her at 26 1/4" long though. Any guesses on a weight? Any help with that would be appreciated!

One more thing, for guys like myself who don't get many days on the water I highly recommend Mr. Harper's services. He mapped the lake and then has a GPS Contour Chip available to save valuable time having to enter the new hotspots into the depth finder. Thanks again!!

Glad you were able to get on an excellent fish. Congrats. on a great catch. If you don't mind me asking; at what depth to you believe you were casting to when you caught the fish? I am assuming you were keeping the boat fairly deep to stay off the feeding fish on the irregular features. Was it a Crig. she bit on? Thanks for sharing the information.

Thanks guys, my girls and I will always remember the experience. The boat was sitting in 25-30 foot of water casting up to 10-15 foot and fishing it all the way back to the boat. After the fish was landed I went back and marked the tree she came off of at 14' deep. It was a C-Rig w/ a 10" worm thrown past standing timber and drawn back past it as close as I could get.

Hard to tell since you are supporting her belly in the photo.

That's a long/big fish. On the Length-Weight Chart provided by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department it would register 11.44#. cheers

Great pic & great fish!

It is hard to guess the weight of a fish from a pic as has been proven time & time again on here. It is a very nice fish and since you asked I would guess 8# but that is just a guess. She is long but kinda skinny like a lot of summertime fish can be. If she was 26.25" long she could be over 9 but like I said, it is hard to tell.

Great job. Looks like she's close to a 10. If nobody's watching and it's me, then closer to 12 # smile

Congrats
Tim

It makes sense to listen to Mr Harper, he shows great understanding and is a really good teacher. Maybe we can get him to come to Florida when its freezing in Texas. I know some spots. Great job on your catch

Thanks guys. She was definitely 26 1/4" long, that I know. It would sure be nice to hook up with that fish pre spawn instead of late summer. She was long and lean. I will never again fish without a scale on the boat...

It looks like a native largemouth to me. I have cuaght overs on Roberts back when they had the slot that weighed 5.5 or 6. That fish being that long and healthy body but not fat should go about 7 and a half. Maybe 8.

Great fish in any case and congrats!!

Huge mouth on that 1!!
