How many actually do it?

I follow rules and regulations to the "Tee", although... I've never titled any outboard I've owned, and seems silly to do so. The boat has tags to renew(with a sticker), the trailer has tags to renew(with a sticker), fishing license, fire extinguisher/whistle, horn, etc and the list compiles...
Does anyone TRULY register for title on the outboard exclusively?!
(P.s. I do keep manufacturer build certificates and such when selling, for new buyer)

Love it when you do it, Do it like you love it

I have been asked to see my boat registration a few times by TX Game Wardens. I don't have a registration sticker on my boat, because it's an "Antique". You just have to carry the sticker with you. They have never inquired at all about my 1961 Johnson outboard. It belongs to my nephew, and he has no title. But, they were never looking for a reason to write me a citation. They're always curious about my 59-year-old boat! IslandJim

You only need to have it titled to prove ownership. I guess for insurance purposes. I dunno. Good question.

the reason they are titled in tx is to prove ownership . when you go to sell it if it has much of a price it would be hard to sell without a title. as far as insurance it might be hard to collect on a total without good title in your name.

It kind of ties it to the boat. If the total rig was stolen (God forbid) and the two were separated how would one id a motor if it was not registered in your name>

I would think other than TAX generater...it cuts down on Hot (STOLEN) sales....

got this off TPWD site ;;;;Effective January 1, 1994, all motorboats and all outboard motors must be titled. Also sailboats 14 feet and over in length must be titled.
