What are you using for baits?

try nose hooking a finesse worm in watermelon red or watermelon seed around docks. Hit sides, front, inside stalls. Let it just sit. Current will do the work. I can usually catch 5 to 1 using this technique over flipping larger baits, year round. Not bigger fish but numbers. 1/0 finesse hook is usually the numbers getting size of hook. I use yellow 10# braid with a 12-15' fluoro leader.

I recently had good luck with 1/4-3/8 drop shot weight nose hooking mag finess worms in redbug and junebug casting on points and creek bends and shaking it back to boat just trying to keep bottom contact.

I've never fished a drop-shot, so- what does a bite feel like? Tap-tap like a TRig?

Almost all of the time you won't feel anything. As you lightly pull up to 12 o'clock position, you will feel like your'e snagged. Set the hook and you will either have a fish or really snagged. Use light line and as others have said, nose hook the finesse worm with a small hook. Good luck
The only difference between a little girls scream and a warrior's battle cry is the direction your'e running!

Don't be afraid to cast the drop shot and use a slow retrieve or having it down while the boat is drifting. It isn't just a vertical lure. Are you using fluorocarbon line? You can also change that distance to the weight around and see if you might find that longer or shorter might get you bites. I don't fish it much but when I do I have had the most success when I have cast it out and working it back thru the fish.

Also if your using the little circular finesse hooks you really dont have to set the hook. Just start feeling with a slight upward move of the rod. I actually like to put a small swivel going from my main line to my leader so I dont get so many line twists. I tried it without the swivel and couldn't keep the twists from happening when using spinning gear or with a heavier bubba shot on baitcasting equip.

Sounds like your fishing it fine but just maybe not in the right locations. My preference would be about 18 inches up from the weight but that's just me. You will feel a little tap sometimes and nothing at all other times. This is a real line watching technique. Once you start catching then on a drop shot you will always have a pole rigged up with one....it's fun.
To whom much is given, much is required.

If the fish are suspended you really have to be good with your electronics to find the right depth, easier to use a drop shot when the fish are closer to the bottom and feeding. Literally 100's of ways and baits to use including all mentioned above. I like to use a minnow imitation nose hooked about 2' above a 1/4" weight and I'm usually in 20-30 FOW. Don't give up on the technique, keep experimenting with different baits, depths and structure.

Just my opinion, use a heavier weight and only use a 12" leader from weight to hook. In clear water throw the Chompers Finese Worm in plum it's the #31 color. Have caught a ton of fish on it. Nose hook it and then I come back and Texas rig it so I can flip it in heavy cover.
