My lil bro Dave (TFF-SKETR)and I decided to try our hand at Mountain Creek Lake this morning,at the ramp we saw a suspiciously handsome guy waiting for his buddy to arrive before he unloaded his boat, after a brief exchange of pleasantries we discover it is famed TFF'er "Texas Sensation"(he's not really all that, but I didn't want to bust his bubble)we were pitching baby brush hogs along a grass/weed line when all the sudden dave's line shoots out towards open water, after a exciting fight we net the montstor 20 plus lb.Drum I thought I took a couple of pics but my camera didn't capture the images,Sorry Dave.We continued on :caught several crappie

caught a bunch of big Sandbass

and finaly LMB

Nice fish!

Really wish I could have seen that big drum, they are really cool fish when they get that big! Bet that was a great fight.

It's the next one downstream from Joe Pool. I think there's a possession ban on everything caught there. You can fish it, you just can't keep anything. Or at least that was the case not too long ago.

Thanks guys,G3 it's a power plant lake in DFW one side is in Dallas the other side Grand Prarie, across the street from Dallas Baptist College. It has had a mercury ban on all fish for years, the Grand Praire side has old runways along the dam area from the Naval-air Base that was there for years, they may have been implicated in the heavy toxin content!
Starless ,yeah it was a battle,we also saw tons of huge carp churnning up the banks in their spawning ritual!

I really like Mountain Creek. For GOOD size bass, throw a Texas-rigged Watermelon Candy baby brush hog on the rocks at the dam. Good numbers and several over 5lbs. And, if you can get back to the creek part that runs into Joe Pool, (I can with my 12ft V-hull aluminum) THERE ARE MONSTERS IN THE back of the creek. Find the Deep Holes and you will WEAR THEM OUT!!!!!!! OVER 7-8LBS!!!!

It has always had huge crappie and sandies in it! I have caught my share from the power plant discharge canal in the dead of winter! Good to see they are still there! Awesome C & R lake!

Sounds like a fun trip...is the lake deep enough to run across it. I have not been on it in many years but I remember it being pretty shallow.

Overall the lake has always been shallow been slited in a long time !The depth around the areas we fished was 3-4 ft as is the average depth for much of the lake.Along the dam was the deepest,I saw 12-14 feet on the depth finder. If you can get on plane pretty quickly you shouldn't have any problems running the lake .Dave usaly pushes that 250 hp Yammie where the prop is the only thing in tha water! grin

Now Rudy there is no need to be jelous of my excessivly good looks. God gave me my face but he let me pick my nose. I was good to see ya out there. Dont go back, lol. Good lake past couple years for me but very dangerous if you don't know it very well. Went today & caught about 10 LMB a handfull of sandies, one black crappie and one white crappie. Productive day overall but no size today, just pollywogs.

Hey Rudy,
It's pretty bad when you don't know where to post our trip; let's see, is it in the crappie, sandbass, lmb, or rough fish section?

Doesn't matter to me they all pull the same. OBTW I need to give a little credit to the chatter bait company, with out them none of this would have been possible:)
