Man I wish! I am going down to surfside in October as we go every year. I never catch anything other than hardheads and those long silver toothy fish. I have never seen the gulf that calm. fingers crossed.
I will buy some controlled decent lures for my trip, what color and how to rig? Just like a fluke?

I typically rig the weedless with a weighted hook, the lighter the better, but that depends on the conditions when it comes to the surf. With the texas surf I have seen hundreds of flat clear days over the years, but I look for them and plan my trips around them. For someone that goes to the beach at set intervals or just when they can your chances of getting a good day decline dramatically. If you are going in early October you can still find some trout. If you do arrive to rough water bring some larger tackle and use dead mullet or shad and search for some bull reds!
Side note, the CDL are great for bass to if you live inland and do some freshwater fishing.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I have used big surf rods and cut or whole mullet for years and never caught a thing. I think i just suck at surf fishing.
Might be a good bait to try for bass as it is a bit different from anything they see here.
