I have never launched at Mustang Park ramp. Is it a good place to launch? Also, is there danger of damaging a prop when going from the ramp out into the main lake on the trees in that area? Is there a cleared path or do you just take your chances?
Thanks for any help offered.

The ramp at mustang is fine for launching. After you launch stay between the trees and the shoreline then pull out a little wider once you get to the point on the left then you should be pretty safe after that. Also that point holds a ton of fish at times so it might be worth your time to fish it awhile.

CF, Use EXTREAM caution launching form Mustang. There is a submerged line of trees just out from the ramp. The tree line runs along the side of the chanel from the emerging creek bed. As you launch, stay close in keeping the bank to your left as you head out and your eye on your graph to stay in the chanel. As you get to the point stay on your heading until about a good 50 yards past it. The point is deceptive and there are shelves that drop on various levels into the slough you will be emerging into. I have switche dover and am launching at Holiday now as long as the water level is up. This end of Benbrook has more than a few stumps and trees to get all over. Until you have graphed it and are aquainted with it, be careful. Due to the inflow from recent rains, there is a ton of debris in the lake. depending on wind direction and speed it is moving all over. I saw a 20' log barely above water line a week ago out in the middle. With the 25 to 30 MPH winds of that day a little distraction at WOT and a bad scene would await you. Good luck!!

Rip, I see we hold the same line on that run... I did mark good fish on the point last week, but that stout southern wind of Monday past would not let me stay on it long enough to do good.

NRGNXS, You are correct on the floating debris.I fished this morning and once I got on the south end of the lake I thought somebody was doing some logging !!! I saw two monster trees floating barely above the surface.I fished that point this morning and caught a few fish but nothing like the action on the main lake.I see guys take off from that ramp all the time and they go right at the stumps. It is amazing what you can learn when you get on a lake that is low.Not only can you find possible hotspots for when the water comes back up but also you can learn some great info about safe navigation.Hey NRGNXS I fish from a grey/black/teal Stratos. If you see me stop and say hello.

R&L, WIll do on the hello. I fish mostly on Modays. Will be out there day after with a few different people. I fish out of a tan HD22B ExPress. MOst of the time I am puttering around looking at a graph finding schools on places I have put waypoints. Last summer when the lake was way down I plotted several runs/ points/ humps that I check out. So far they are producing and I don't have to look very long or hard. There is schooling action late right up against the shores. The birds will tell you where it's going on. I have not noated anything of size so far this spring. BUt I have caught alot of undersized . I am talking Hyb. If I were to keep all the 10/11/12" whites I catch I would have a freezer full. I hope as the water continues to settle and warm the bigger fish show up in numbers. Good Luck
