No you don't have to show them and they cannot detain you just because you refuse to show them your receipt.

Heck the time given to this post the door greeter could have checked 40 receipts. Just show it and move on.... the date is more than likely the only thing they look at anyway. lol
life is to short to worry about a receipt being checked that I have paid for the stuff. Most that have stuff they have not paid for are walking so fast with head down they do not know there is a door greeter there.
Just think about this the dishonest people in the world make it harder on everyone.

If the cop say stop and get on the ground just do it. If a silver haired lady or gentleman ask to check your receipt just show it and move on.

Private clubs are different ie Sams and Costco, they can check. Walmart and Frys cannot unless you let them. As soon as you pay the property is yours. I have been asked and politely decline. The door person has no right to go through my property unless they have reson to believe I have not paid for it. They are not about to accuse a paying customer. I understand they are attempting to limit theft but I don�t want them messing with my property and wasting my time.

No profiling, not hard to show receipt....the point he is making is being missed by so many! Our Walmart checks receipts at door during very busy times such as Holiday shopping. It always bothered me because of the "principle" of the action. But I suppose we can compare it to random law enforcement traffic checks where you have to stop and show drivers license and proof of insurance. An inconvenience, but not a big deal....just the principle of "no trust" when dealing with mostly honest people!
