Managed to squeak out 13 dinky bass on Friday 13th fishing the Sabine River in Orange mostly north of I-10. It was really tough competing against the massive schools of shad throughout the area. Probably because of the abundance of shad, most of the fish caught came on a small chrome chugger. I threw ALL of the usual suspects though, true junk-fisherman that I am, and the better quality fish just weren't interested. Water temp was 86-89 deg.
A threatening thunder storm (read: lightning!) and 95 degree temperature made me give it up by 4:00 PM and head for home and the air conditioning!
I can only imagine how August will feel!!! I may have to take up bowling until fall!

Stripers usually show up in January-February. They stage up at the mouths of the big drains coming out of the Louisiana marsh, but I have also caught them off of the old concrete ways by the shipyard in downtown Orange. They make a redfish look like a sissy!
