Do bubba blades work as advertised? My American angler electric fillet knife that I�ve had for 15 or 16 years bit the dust on me this past weekend but I have been thinking about trying a bubba blade for a while, every since I saw the infomercial about it. That guy made it look unbelievably easy.

My Bubba Blade was so dull out of the package, it got relegated to bottom of the boat duty. Sharpened it but still like my Buck.

Just got mine in the mail, will let you know in a day or two. Mine was sharper than the Rapala out of the package that's for sure.

I have two of them, the 9" and the 12", love them both, have cleaned every thing from crappie up to 28" Redfish! They will get dull, i just run the blade real lightly thru this little Smith Sharpener, i only use the fine side, and very little pressure.

They are good knives, but it takes two not so easy skills to make it useful for filleting crappie. The ability to get a knife very sharp and the ability to use a manual knife to fillet a fish, neither is easily mastered. If you are not sure if you can get a knife razor sharp then you probably can't. I recommend a work sharp sharpener and a butcher's steel in between like Chuck recommends on the Bubba blade videos on youtube. I got decent at it, but until I wear out more than 2 electric knives a year, I'm sticking with electric.

Personally, I don't think the "blade" is anything special. Its the oversized, non-slip "handle", that I like.

I have had the blade for at least 3 years, never used it after the first couple of times. Went back to the trusty cheap 12 bucks or less regular Walmart electric kitchen knife (either Hamilton Beach or Black & Decker), that works great. Of course I am over 70 and never had strong wrist to make cleaning with a regular knife easy. I do use the Bubba Blade to slice watermelon.

I've been using the Bubba Blade for about seven years now. I clean 3-4 fish per minute, and sharpen the knife every 100-125 fish. The work sharp tool sharpener is what I use to keep the edge on my blade.

The main reason people don't like the knife is because it's used improperly. When switching from electric to manual, it's hard to break the habit of pushing the knife through the fish. With the fixed blade, the user must slice up and down sobthat the edge can actually do its job. I messed up the first dozen or so fish, but once I got used to it, game on. I don't think I'll ever go back to electric, but if I did, I would go with American Angler.

It may be great. In fact Chuck demonstrates how great it can be. I just can�t keep it sharp enough to cut through the rib cages for more than 5-6 fish. Mine came pretty dull out of the package.
