They have been time tested. In JDM products. For years. It's only "new" for the states. Or at least the technology is time tested. The actual model numbers are new.

You are recommending lews on one post then calling for time tested products on another??? Lol

Look around...the complaints on the lews reels are starting to roll in. Seems like hitting the 6 month mark and issues are stacking up. Kind of what I figured from a straight importer company.

I bought my first Tatula at the Classic Expo in Houston for $75. Since then, every T-Wing Daiwa that comes up for sale at a good price, I have snatched up. I am up to 5 or 6 now and couldn't be happier. I need to quit buying them though. Two of them are still sitting on the counter because I don't have rods for them. Its just hard to pass up a deal on a reel that good. Try one out. You may end up with 2 reels instead of 1 for the same money!

I switched from Shimano to Lew's some years back after they quit making the E's which is when they stopped making them in Japan IIRC.

Seems like they also swapped out to cheaper materials (? Maybe ?) so people were having problems with them.

I have had zero problems out of the Lew's but if Shimano has brought out a great reel (from all reviews the Curado K is) then I will give them a go again.

I've sold off all my Shimano's and Abu's and narrowed my collection down to two different reels in your budget. Tatula SV TW's and Concept A's and honestly I think the Concepts are smoother. I did recently pick up a left handed Lew's Orange Crush for my wife and have to say other then the fat grips which I hate the reel is pretty impressive.

Where are you finding complaints on Lews baitcasters? I see more way more positive comments than I do negative ones. I have about 25 Lews reels and have not had a single problem with one of them, so I speak from experience, not just from what I heard or read somewhere. The models I have are the BB1 BB1 Pro, MG, and the Super Duty.

What are you talking about...6 month mark???

Im just hesitant because the Curado I series got great reviews early on but then developed problems with noisy brakes. I got rid of all them and bought Lews reels to replace them and haven't had a single issue with any of them.

I will get a Curado K if the reviews continue to be positive. So far, all of the ones I have seen are all positive.

I bought a couple of the piscifun Torrent reels for lures I don't throw a lot. Crankbaits and topwater.
These are the best $40 reels ever.
I've bought 4 more and use them for worming, flipping, even frog fishing.
Why spend $100 and it turns out not that good a reel?
The drag is great, and love the larger handles.
Just my two cents worth.

Daiwa makes several different CT models at different price ranges.

Shimano. I have owned 1 Lews and will never buy another. I have E series Citicas and Curados that are still work horses after 5+ years and still perform better than the Lews ever did.

I have always been a Curado person and still have about 6 of them some really old that still work great. Recently have been looking into other reels. Have always followed Greg Hackney and was recently interested in the Quantum Smoke reels he uses but never seem to find anyone talking about them. I pretty much fish a lot of shallow power type baits like he fishes (even though I seem to rarely catch fish these days) and thought they might be worth checking out.
Anyone have an opinion regarding these reels?

Imo the only viable options are lews and daiwas right now, I have mainly lews right now, around 20 of them, and I have picked up an sv103 and tatula ct and I'm slowly replacing my lews for daiwas. I got my first lews in 2013 and haven't cleaned it the first time and it still fishes extremely well and have never had any problems. I have bb1, bb1 pro, tournament mb, tournament pro, tournament laser, team magnesium. I've had multiple Revos from different generations and have had problems with all of them crapping out on me. I have one lews that I have on my frog rod that's starting to make noises on castes every now and then. Other than that they've been great to me.
