Is there a difference between these two reels besides line capacity?

An analogy I like to use when buying reels of the same brand, just different series, is... Mustangs, you can get the v6 or the v8, most guys will go for the v8...

Yes, the only difference is the 200D has a deeper and I believe wider spool. All other internal parts are the same. I called Shimano to verify this prior to my purchase.

FYI, I bought the new 200. My father has the new 100, and I can tell no casting difference between the two in terms of length. I am a little paranoid of getting spooled so that is why I went with the 200.

Also have the 200 Citica, which is just about equal in performance. Good luck.

I personally don't like the way the 200 feels. The gear housing is in the way when I palm the reel. Also the 200 weighs 9.8 oz. compared to 7.4 for the 100. That is a pretty significant difference to me.

Chris apparently misunderstood what Shimano told him, because the Curado 100D and 200D vastly different reels. They have totally differnt frames - the 100D is much smaller than the 200D. The 200D has the larger diameter High Efficiency Gearing (HEG) while the 100D does not. There are plenty of other differences between the reels as well but those are two big differences.

Maybe so. I am going from memory. It is easy to conclude the frame is larger due to the spool. After re-reading, I admit my original post was misleading and I apologize for that. I did forget about the retrieve ratio, which I was aware of.

Here is a link where he can compare.

http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/products/group_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302036641&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181270&bmUID=1177610041011

I've actually got the 200 DHSV. This was really the main reason I called Shimano.....I wanted to know the difference between the saltwater "S" models vs the others. I was told the only difference is the "S" models have a solid spool, and the others are drilled. It looks like the "H" means high speed retrieve. Reeldoc straighten me out here if I am wrong.....

It looks like the 100 DSV has nearly the same line capacity as the 200's.....

So it sounds like there's not much of a difference besides the feel. I'm going to BPS tonight to see the difference for myself.

Thanks for all your input!

The 200 has a much faster retrieve than the 100. Thats another big difference other than line capacity and size.

Bearing ratios;
100D & 100DSV-6.2:1
200DHSV-------7:1
200DPV--------5:1

The higher the ratio, the more line it will retrieve per one turn of the reels handle. They are not the same AT ALL.

Hope this helps a little...

Picked up the 100 last night and loving it so far. I've never casted a weightless fluke so far!

The 200 seemed quite a bit bigger than the 100...the smaller lighter one was more my style but to each his own.

thanks everyone!

I am sure you will enjoy it. Alot of Curado people on this board can attest to that. Good luck.

You did the right thing by going with the 100D !! It is basicy the Chronarch 50 MG, with a different frame !! I really like the feel of the 100D, over the 200, it just seems to fit my hand better !!

Thanks for the thread. After looking at both reels I went with the 100D. It seems to be a great reel after two fishing trips.

FYI, you can find the 100's on Ebay for around $150 if you're patient.....
