I need new float line for my 8wt general purpose mostly lake and Texas river fishing any suggestions

I asked the same question not too long ago. The asnswer I was told was Scientic Anglers Boost.

Your probably receive a few more choices, and that is healthy. I am just trying to give you another option.

I throw Rio Outbound on all my rods 6-9 wt. But I throw really big flies, and use fast to ultra fast rods.

I also like Rio Grand. I wouldn't pay $99 for a new line, I found all mine on sale 40-50% off on ebay or online closeout sales.

I like Scientific Angler Mastery MPX. It can hold up to heat and doesn't get stiff in cool water. Its a bit more expensive than Boost but its also weighted a bit further forward than Boost and I find it casts better for short distances and turns over big bass bugs better. I've never used Boost but its a level weight forward and very similar to the Orvis Bass line I use a lot. If you look at the line profiles on SI's web site you will see the difference. I've used the line on three different 8 weights and it works well on both fast and mod fast rods.

The Rio Grand is a great line, I use it that on my 7' medium 6wt. I have Rio Smallmouth on my 9' fast 8wt. I like it but I may try the Grand next time.

My personal preference is the Rio Perception. Called the Rio rep and asked him about lines for bass. He told me how much I bragged to him about the perception for 4-6 weights, why not just buy it in 8 wt.

It's just such a high quality line for all types of fishing even big streamers for bass. Took his lead and it's just great.

What makes a good fly line? Probably depends on whom you ask. Besides casting whatever you want it to cast well with the rod of your choice, there�s other considerations.

How does it handle different temperatures. Do you fish off hot sunny boat decks or wading in the shade? Do you fish in the cooler weather season?

Is the line prone to getting dirty? Is it prone to tangles in the running line? Is it too slick making it difficult to set the hook?

My 8 weight SA sharkwave Titan taper line casts well, but gets extremely slick in hot conditions. So slick I have an awful time setting the hook and keeping pressure on a fish.

My Rio Outbound 8 weight line is very prone to absorbing marsh mud and getting it embedded in the coating. Eventually, it affects the handling and performance and no amount of cleaning will remove the particulates.

My Airflo tropical punch stiffens up in cooler weather and becomes hard to handle. On the other side, I had some cabelas line that got limp in hot weather.
