Brave souls taking on the main lake during the summer on metromess inner city lakes in a yak... Very difficult to see if there is much of a breeze blowing too, especially before 9am. If it were me in the yak I'd have a flag and be wearing safety yellow or orange shirt and hat.

I just try to ignor them, How much damage could a kayak possibly do to a boat?
The real question is how much damage can my lawyer do to your bank account if you hit me in my kayak?

Agree that we kayakers sometimes are our own worst enemies. I am primarily a river kayak angler, and I avoid the big popular lakes in the summertime altogether. But if I do hit a public lake, I will be wearing neon yellow everything.

Want to encounter some authentic morons? Head to the coast. ONE narrow cut between back lakes, only way in or out. They'll blockade the cut and act like you're killing baby seals if you try to use it. Arghhh

It was a guy in a Majek Redfish Line about twenty minutes prior just before the tide flushed out of Fifth lake going into Contee. I was watching the mud spray of him coming out like his tail was on fire, I was quite impressed, he slid out more than he powered out.
He knew he was a gonner, if it had been sand instead of poot mud, he'd still be stuck there.

Also... If you didn't know about the Texas Water Safari, it is a canoe/kayak/paddle race from San Marcos to Seadrift. Winning time this year was a blistering 39 hours. Think about that for a minute. All day, all night, all day.
I've seen some really dedicated competitive people before, but never on the scale of these people. One old dude was on his 50th race. Once just to say you're looney enough to do it, and I'd still be impressed. 50? you need meds.

And to those not familiar with flats/tunnels/ultra shallow running. Water does not compress. You might think your boat needs a foot of water to operate in, but when you get really shallow, like four or five inches, your boat literally lifts up and you're still going. If you're running a tunnel hull, you're good until you suck the water out of the tunnel, then brother you are going to be stuck like Chuck. My jet takes a whole lot less water to operate in, we can scoot through 2" all day, and usually go about a hundred yards in 1" before I finally cavitate down, but that's usually more than enough to get back into ankle deep and keep going.

What's the minimum depth that boat of yours needs to get up and going from a standstill?
